I can avoid the hosting cost and setup and installation of wordpress and the whole mess this way.
I plan on using adsense for monetization and I have a good domain name already I just purchased.

How much negative effect, if any, would it have to point my domain to my wordpress site instead of getting a real hosting package?

Thanks guys, you have been super helpful!

Wordpress.com does not allow adsense or any other monetization.

Ah thanks. Guess that is the main deal breaker.

Another idea I had was masking and redirecting to a host I already have.

If I owned example.blah then i could have my new domain point to example.blah/newsite

Would this work with masking or is it a bad idea? Not sure how much google cares about where things are hosted.
