.US Domains - How well do they rank? Do I have to be from the US to register one?

I'm interested in buying my first .US domain name but I am not sure if they rank well in Google. Apart from that I'm not even sure if I can register a .US domain as I'm from the UK. Would anyone be able to answer my queries?

I'm from the UK and got one thru g0daddy, they didn't ask any questions. Finding it tougher to rank tho but maybe because the niche is saturated.

Yep you can register even you're not in US, I registered one .us TLD using namecheap without a problem. As for search engine ranking I think .info can rank better.

In Godaddy, you can say that your domicile is in USA and they will buy it. Just make sure you add a true sounding address.

LOL. GoD*addy would buy anything you say as long as you're paying them! But yeah it's true you can register .us even if you're not a US citizen.

I have 2 .us domains that I bought at Godaddy and I'm not a US citizen. No problems at Godaddy; they just want to sell. As for ranking I'm not sure yet as I started building one of them about 2-3 months ago and its on google page 9 without any backlinking.
