    Hi everyone,

I have a really good viral script very similar to the one mentioned in kinlee's journey thread. Suggest me a really good VPS provider.

    Must have requirements:

    1. Since I'm a complete noob when it comes to server side things, they should have a really fast support system in place.

    2. The script uses PHP and MySQL. Which is the best OS for running the script? Linux or Windows? If Linux which is the best one I should go for?
I was recommended Win 2008 by cwvps. But he also said, that I need XAMPP it is a LAMP stack for Windows which will allow you to install SQL, webserver etc. Does it mean that the default OS installation doesnt have a webserver by default to install the script and start my site? Then obviously I have to install the latest updates for the OS and also the security settings.

Do I need to know anything else?

Please help me. Thanks in advance for your answers

HariDada, I would say Linux is much more efficient at handling and configuring VPS.
Almost all VPS support PHP and MySQL right out of the box. No additional steps required.
Linux is very well documented. Even if you happen to run into problems, you can find solutions by Googling it. The forums and community is very active when it comes to linux.

As far as support goes, I would say go with bluehost.
Why? They have online webchat support. I have been with them for three years. I have run into problems, but they have always fixed things asap through their online chat support.
i even bother them with questions like "why is my website slow for XYZ country?" and they have a solution for me. Skilled and helpful support team.

There's no mainstream OS that has a configured web server installed by default. Whether it's Linux or Windows - you still need to install web server, database server (e.g. MySQL), most likely PHP and possibly lots of other things - depending on what your script requires.

First question is: what OS does the script need? That will say whether you can go for an OpenVZ VPS or KVM / Xen (slighty more expensive).

After you answer that people can send you to decent providers (decent != cheapest) and you can then read up on securing a VPS so you don't get hacked / exploited.
