So Yea ... I read about the new upcoming Penguin update, and it's making me worry about how much longer SEO will be effective. I have just built a new authority site and had big plans for it, but I guess i'm going to have to keep it completely whitehat?

What are the safest, most effective links to build?

Thanks

Just adapt to the update, use generic anchors > just don't do anything unnatural. Unique content, social signals > be diverse.

Diversity is HUGE. Make sure that all of your links are diverse. That doesn't just mean different types of anchor text. It also means different types of websites with different types of links as well.

Just think of whatever looks natural. They hit the nail on the head with diversity. Make sure you have a good variety of anchor texts coming from many different sources. Just think of how a normal site would build a link profile.

All these questions and answers are becoming so generic and repetitive. Adapt, be unique, look natural, be diverse... DUH! Nothing new here

Despite the update keep in mind that regardless of whatever update gets implemented for the big G, any and all new websites are going to need time to gain some ground (at least that is what I'm gathering from the posts on many other threads here on the forum). If you're just starting out, it honestly wouldn't be a terrible idea to just start from square one and get your proverbial hands dirty with keyword research and writing some articles that'll help to drive traffic to your site. Just my take on it, everyone has a different way. What ever you do choose to do, though, do what is best for your site and don't stumble right out of the gate by choosing methods that'll make your site look bad. Be cool! Best wishes!

Why worry now. We don't know what the update will bring. As others have said, just build links that look natural (wide variety of sites, anchor text, etc.). If Google starts to penalize sites that have natural backlinks then they really have a problem!

Its nothing but reducing the profit level. Previously we worked for few keywords, used them in anchor, metas. but not its harmful. Now we have to work for more than 10 keywords to be safe. that means more work more investment. the profit Vs. Investment Graph will not be spiked like before.

just try to think on search way.. do backlinking of your website like you're fan of this website(brand) and you'll good to go.

Make your website's design/layout look like a big site(authority site)
having accounts on all professional business listing sites will be good trust factor for G.

make sure that any website you make don't start link building just the second day, do press release as announcement about what your website is offering (something unique)

try to get links from natural sources like BIG social giants 1st and then after few days start doing bookmarking kind of normal stuff in very minimal amount with very natural keyphrase(think like a searcher or bookmarker, if you are bookmarking some useful site then what will you add as bookmark title, description, tags? just add it)

I may be right or wrong but as per current google algo i find this way more natural then other.. still working on this for my couple of MNS sites.. i'll update if i get hit by new updates or if i get any good news also!

Nothing is safe. There are white hat sites/authority sites that got hit last Penguin.

You cannot be safe with Google SEO

Don't build links like this Exact Main Keyword

That's all you need to know really.

Diversify, add in social signals and focus more on the quality of links as opposed to quantity and you should be good.

I disagree with part of the "natural" argument, since what's natural is basically to sit around doing on-site optimization and praying that your site will be ranked. That's what most people do; most new website promotion is unnatural. However, I do agree with the argument in the sense that you should camouflage your spam with top-notch content.
