A friend of mine (not me) is using "unofficial" version of Sony Vegas Pro to create his own Youtube videos and the upload them. He wonders if there is some kind of digital signature in the created videos which Sony could use to identify that his videos are made in Sony Vegas?

    thanks.

I have used Sony Vegas for years, I currently use a "Portable" version of Sony vegas, it's size is like 100mb and works exactly like a full install size sony vegas, I edit my videos in it then upload to youtube, never had any problems with it what so ever. :)

It doesn't exactly sound like your friend is a big-time contractor, so don't worry about the FBI breaking your door down while you are editing your next 'lets play'.

I've been using the cracked version of some great softwares (I won't mention their name here), and I don't think that there is anything you need to worry about. Just don't allow internet access to cracked tools unless its necessary. And I don't think they add any tracking data to a video produced from their software, so can chill out bro :)

I use Vegas Pro as well and I don't think it leaves any track. Firewall block it (Just in case).

If only Sony was smart enough to implement something like this, it would force YouTube users to actually purchase a full version rather than torrent it.

    Thank god they aren't.

I would not worry about it, once you upload to youtube the video is compressed and reprocessed so any signatures would be hidden anyway....

and I doubt they could search for videos by codec.

Exactly and I don't think you can extract the codec from a FLV file.

I wouldn't say there's much to worry about, but it's highly recommended to purchase the official piece of software in order to be safe.
