Hello there under the EU LAW which gives us the freedom to information and privacy my user name has been a problem since I registered with my name and anyone can search found this link top 1 on google I have asked before to change it over here and they asked me to pay money to do it '' for a premium membership''
Isn't that why we have ''General Data Protection Regulation''

EU Data law require the website owner to not use your personal data outside the website (Sell your data...) and to do everything possible to protect your personal data.
I don't think changing your username has anything to do with that,
But you have the right to delete your account, your threads & posts... (Under the data retention law),
But it's an interesting topic, and waiting for the mods to give more details about this.

That's my Point if am not allowed to changed my username which i perfectly told them a long time ago it was a mistake and change it they didn't accept
and now anyone who knows me can write my name In google and found my account here maybe the rest of you that is something normal but not for me i like my privacy and that is something the law gives it to me at least or Delete every post, thread, likes, everything related to me and even the username itself etc..

The problem for you is bhw gave you a choice and you could have chosen any username you wanted. You decided on using your real name. Therefore you put it in the public domain not bhw. So it is not covered by data protection laws.

The price of fixing your mistake will be upgrading to a paid account.

Alternatively, close your account or live with it.

This indeed is an interesting topic.
I have seen some forum profiles being deleted on the forum.
Regarding username change I can't say, better mods may give better insight.
If what you say is right then EU data law should also be applicable to email and social media like gmail, yahoo, fb etc...
As per forum rules only paid members are allowed to change usernames.
I think profile deletion is the only option, that would serve both your and forum interests.
Your data is protected and forum rules are also maintained.
That's just my understanding. Let's see what the mods say.

Request account termination. Even if tou change the username, it would be pretty easy to get the old one with few searches. Even id terminated you so left footprint of the username.

beside that, the law you speak is false. You can request, revoke or terminate data not edit.

Based on what you say i can request 10.000.000 likes on any forum or platform since its my data. Or go to netflix and request free membership cuz its my DATA

For my sins I spent over a year implementing GDPR on e-commerce websites and have the scars. Personal Data has to be corrected if it is incorrect such as a wrong name or date of birth, not because the data owner wants it changed to protect their identity. A website owner is fully entitled to not change or delete incorrect data if they don't want to. How long they keep the data depends on why they are keeping it. e.g. fraud prevention or other abuses of a website (not saying for a second that is happening here).

GDPR applies to personal data held and processed in the EU regardless of the nationality of the data subject.

best thing if it is allowed here is to terminate your account and start again (websites can retain data for old customers if they feel they need to, again for security purposes)

Any fool can use his/her name as a user name also. I mean in a digital age, what could go wrong.

He saved that for the location.

just pay the fee to become a vip. you can name change once
a year. i highly doubt your user name falls under data issue.

    paying for the name change.

Just upgrade to a paid account and change your username. You get other benefits too apart from username change.
