How are people coping with this? i've had mixed responses from affiliate programs about it,

Do i need to apply for an ITIN number, if i hope to quality for the tax exempt treaty?

I've been asked about this from a number of affiliates, what have other people done?

Also where do i send my completed W7 form to, i can't seem to find an email address to send it

I just received my check from Amazon. I'm a non US resident and Amazon deducts 30% from my commission as witholding tax. I check with Amazon and I am required to submit W8BEN to them. I have done that. My country does not have any tax treaty with US. So I have to wait and see.

BTW, I did not apply for ITIN as it does not seem to apply to me. And I mail the completed form to them. I mean snail mail.

Surprised nobody has posted anything regarding this yet, but anyway here is what i have found out,

You can get an EIN number to use instead of your ITIN number, and you can get this by just phoning the Philadelphia number 001 267 941 1099.
You should have the SS4 form open on your PC, so you know what parts they are talking about.

Supposedly it takes just a few minutes to get it, and they give it to you over the phone.

Just simply fill in your W8 Ben and put the EIN in place of the ITIN

    Done.

Going to do this later today, hopefully get one as easy as what i've been reading people have

Just filled this bullshit procedure a few days ago for reapplying for amazon.com (US).
I've had no problems, I don't do anything in US, I work in UK. Fuck law making Muricans with Britfags with their 30%.
    My w8 ben's been auto-accepted, no problem.

Tick the right boxes, you'll be fine.

UK made it a law that income generated from a US company (Amazon in this case) by UK citizens means the UK citizens have to pay US income tax? Wtf?

You'll find they will just automatically hold 30% unless you enter an ITIN or EIN

Haven't been using my US Amazon affiliate account for a while or logged into that email. This is ridiculous. Will log into that account and refer back to this thread later on.

I haven't received any email about it and my US account isn't showing me any actions that need doing. I live in the UK also. I filled out the w8ben a while ago when they needed it and received a cheque at the start of this year for the full amount. Haven't received any emails or anything after this regarding tax.

Wait, what? So from now on, UK citizens have to pay 30% tax to US + whatever % you pay to UK?

Follow the steps to get your EIN mate, i tried phoning on friday, but they were too busy, but its definitely the right number.

If you want to file tax returns or claim back your already paid 30% then you need the ITIN number,

Most people i suspect will opt for the EIN, quicker and easier, and nothing has to be declared to UK if you don't need to.

This doesn't just apply to UK, its all US tax treaty countries

What did you guys expect from a greedy America? We outsourced all labor, provide no service or product to the world other than shitty quality food, and there is no income for our government to overspend or steal. Obama needs his $400 trillion dollars to retire on, so you fools have to pay for it to.

In all seriousness, the tax treaty is unfair, but it'll keep some idiots from trying to undercut us companies on us soil.

just thought i'd add to this ever expanding extravaganza.

I had one affiliate come back o me to say my form wasn't filled in correctly, so i found a good resource at http://angelasstone.livejournal.com/15902.html

This tells you what to write on your W8, which to be honest, the affiliate company will not help you with.

Anyway, this should be enough to help members worldwide save some cash.

OMG! back to this thread again! had zazzle come back to me (one of the affiliates that require this form) tell me it wasn't filled in correctly, basically went mad and said here are all the reasons it is filled in correctly. Sort it out. Waiting again for an answer now.

Ok, i need some help here.

Affiliate has come back to me saying "I apologize for any confusion caused. To confirm, line 2 on section 10 of your form references the highest tax rate of 30%. These reduced rates and exemptions vary among countries. To avail of the correct and lower tax percentage between the UK and the US, please state the percentage agreed with the UK/US treaty."

What am i getting wrong here? I though the percentage was the 30%?

    EDIT:
What a dummy, i just need to put 0% for this. can't believe they didn't just say that instead of "please state the percentage agreed with the UK/US treaty"

I looked up the forum associated with this affiliate, seems like lots of people are having probs like this, can't believe there aren't many other people posting in this thread?

Back again for more tax shenanigans.

Got an email from amazon today which said i had to retake the tax form treaty. Basically the EIN number doesn't fit. It HAS to be a ITIN number.

Now have to go through the hassle of getting one of these now....

This is ridiculous.. I don't know why they feel the need to make it so damn complicated.

Just leaving a comment here so I can find this thread again. No doubt i'll be referring back to it many, many times! :wt:
