I had a UK paypal account in my name all legit for some stupid security reasons and after all documents provided paypal decided to shut it down indefinitely. I wasn't checking my account for long time as it was to be closed and some days ago i noticed there negative balance from a couple of chargebacks. Then after some time i get a call from paypal i was busy so didnt give out any information and told them to call me again. I searched this number and it is from paypal department that resolved negative balance. They kept calling for a few days but i didnt answer them, nothing really much to say to these crooks that shut down my account for no good reason and now that some buyers made chargebacks they want me to cover negative balance in an indefinitely limited account. My question is since the address of that account is a real one but i moved i dont live there anymore can the collection agency find my current address? Will my bank give out my real address? Should i just go and change my address in the bank and then close that bank account linked with that paypal account? After how much time does paypal give this to the collection agency in UK? I will be out of the country in 4 months so wondering if i can skip this encounter with the collection agency or not? All advice much appreciated

Hi, It really all depends on whether you want to do the proper thing or not! My experience is that Paypal is a reasonable organization to deal with, and you can probably get this issue easily resolved if you contact them. The collection agency can probably track you down, but if there is no much money involved I'm sure they won't spend much effort on it!

Nothing much they can do unless lawyer letters are sent which to them, writing off is a better option imo. Of course, you may proceed to pay them back but I doubt you would.

    Peace,

Never had paypal collections after me but it would seem pretty easy to track you down if they wanted to. If you don't want it having over your head I would just pay them back, less stress.

My next question is if they find you how you respond. Do you deny everything associated with that account or you do a settlement for re-payment that can go over 4 months? Can they pursue you legally and how long the legal process takes?

Thats the thing i am not UK national citizen and i will be leaving UK in 4 months so whats the best strategy to tackle this matter with them. Call pp and make arrangements to re-pay them after 4 months? Doubt they ll accept it. Make arrangements with dept collection agency? Can they pursue me legally if im not UK citizen, basically will i forced to pay off the debt in the next 4 months or i can skip it? Sorry if that sounds so blunt and maybe out of legal terms but like i said before pp decided to close my account for no reason even when i provided all documents and then when i didnt access it at all as it was limited indefinitely so no reason for me to access it it got hit with chargebacks that i was unaware of so in my opinion i dont owe them anything, not like they re gonna restore my account if i repay them or something

It takes time for debt collection to escalate. If you havent had a debt collection agency in touch with you already then four months is not enough time for them really. You should go on the forums at moneysavingexpert to get more on point advice.

This topic has been discussed many times in the past on these forums.

The most common way that eBay or Collection Agencies find out who you really are is by getting a court order to look at the information on the bank account that is attached to your PayPal account.

Banks will not exchange that information unless they have a court order.

If you are using someone else's bank account information that is not your own that is identity fraud and will land you in more trouble.

Once they have spent the time and money to obtain a court order to look at your bank account to find out who you really are or by using other resources they use at that point they will definitely take legal actions against you and take you to court.

Whoever takes you to court when the date arrives if you don't show up the judge will automatically rule in their favor.

Anything that is $500 or higher is a felony in the United States and then the case will be turned over to law enforcement and their will be arrest warrants out for you.

When your arrested or if you went to court when you were supposed to if you used a different name than what is registered with eBay or PayPal that is not your actual name I'm sure it will look very conspicuous that you are doing something you shouldn't have. You will probably have your wages garnished and your assets seized or possibly put in prison and have to make restitution later it all depends on the judge.

Everything I just mentioned only happens if eBay or Collection Agencies decide to take that plan of action.

That only happens if you have deceived them bad enough or they have linked multiple stealth accounts together in the past where you have screwed eBay to many times in the past.

I appreciate your reply but do carefully read what i write in this thread. We are talking about UK account not US account and its 2 unfair chargebacks 1.5k total negative balance. Don't just write stuff you read here and there if you don't actually know whats going on (by the way you sound like you work for pp or a collection agency the way to try to twist this by intimidating me, aint happening though im an old player)

OP, it doesn't go away. If you can avoid them and have no contact for 6 years then you may be able to write it off BUT they will usually have taken you to court/moneyclaim long before and a County court Judgement would be issued that would last for 6 years

I'm going to sell them your name and tell them you came here to run from them. Jokes aside, they won't do much to you just ruin your credit or w.e. you got.

Why not be a man and face your problam,
you say it a unfair cashback then state your case
dont run dont hide be a man.

you can offer a settlement if you lose of a small monthly fee
or if unemployed get them to take it from your dss

never run what ever happens 1.5 no way fight your
    case

    be a man

if you ant been paying tax then i fill for you your get
no symoathy from any court best deal with it directly

if paypal do take it to court and you do go out the country
you might even lose your right to re enter the uk not worth the hasstle
challange them state your case exsplain your leaving uk get
them to understand your finacall know ...

if you do nothink your only worry might aswell challenge it head on.

if your finaces are low prove it to then and make a small monthly
offer till the bill payed up that easy.

After few months when he decided to open new account in Spain, he got a troubles coz somehow they know that he is bad guy in another country... So think twice how many troubles you will get after, not now...

And yeah, agreed with "redarrow" BE A MAN and PAY IT!

Just pay it. The worry, stress and hassle isn't worth such a small amount.

There are multiple issues in the future if you decide to not pay and skip the country. The most basic being that you will be flagged for skipping the country with a debt and you will automatically be excluded from travelling to certain countries as they will not approve your visa as this sort of information is shared between some countries.

Don't think that you won't ever travel to the UK again. What happens if somewhere in the future you get married to a girl who has relatives in the UK. How are you going to explain that and dealing with it then won't be fun.

Your credit history could be ruined as well.

Just pay up and work out a payment plan with them. They will allow you to pay it back over several months if you talk to them.
Chargebacks are a part of the IM industry and you should just understand they happen and always have the cash sitting there to cover a few of them.

How much money are you talking about.
If it is less amount then there is a chance that they wouldnt care about it.
But keep in mind that if it is a large amount it is always advicable to pay them if you want to have a happy life :)

on topic: after you sent all the documents you should've called paypal again and stayed with them until they activated your account.
The problem with paypal is, that they don't look on your files that you upload. especially if you open a dispute. you must stay in permanent contact (mostly via phone) to resolve your issues.

edit: if you had a negative balance (especially if it's about -200USD) then just pay it....

That is some solid information thank you for that. As for the rest that say just pay them off i would i really would if i was to stay in UK or i was a UK citizen, the thing is as i mentioned before im leaving the UK in 4 months probably wont come back and im not UK citizen so they wont find me probably for the next 6 years and then if i want to i can "delete" this dept. Yes i could come up with a small monthly fee to re-pay them, but since im not planning to stay in the UK it just seems not obligatory to me. Anyway thank you all for your advice and information thanks especially to W130SN and Duffers5000

P.S. i am not running away from the country lol, some people might got that impression, to avoid this dept, no. I am leaving as my studies here finish so there is no reason for me to stay here any longer. I wouldnt run away or be forced to move country for a dept of 1.5k thats ridiculous
