If there are already threads on this subject could someone direct to me them?

.uk domains to be released soon by Nominet.

How will this impact SEO in the UK?

    Any views?

The domain resellers are up in arms about it, presumingly because it devalues their portfolio.
Real businesses couldn't care less about it and aren't going to move their .co.uk to this mickey mouse domain.
Nominet are excited as they think it justifies their existence.
Me, i'm wholly indifferent and won't be using them, mostly down to the increased cost and need for validation attached to each of these new domains.

Just think of the amount of money that will be spent on .uk domains the moment they launch. Thousands of branded companies will buy their .uk domain to protect their business.
