    Here is the plan
I have found a good few websites in various niches that are selling banner advertising fairly cheap and I plan to profit from that by buying long term banner space with email submit offers on their pages

    Here's the thing
I need someone with experience doing this to tell me a rough formula so I know how much to be spending on each campaign

Say site X has 100k monthly unique hits

What percentage of them could I use as a guesstimate for my lead returns? Providing that........

    • I have picked the correct audience i.e 'win fashion accessories' on a woman's health forum
    • I have a decent add placement *above the fold and eye catching*

Also, would it be better to know the monthly impressions as opposed to the unique views? Problem being though I am using compete to analyze the actual amount of monthly traffic a site receives and it does not tell you the page impressions per month.

From my experience a site normally has about a 3:1 ratio of impressions to unique hits... would this be correct?

    Any advice is greatly appreciated

    Cheers

    Assuming 100k UNIQUE VISITORS -

With 2% CTR on your ads you will get 2000 clicks and then with a 10% Submit rate you will get 200 Submits a month.

Most submits give you $1.5 per email

So thats about $300-$500 MAX per month.

@ourfella feel your pain man.. nobody likes to answer our question coz this is the method of some of the big boys.. media buying.. about your question you can use quantcast to view their impression per day/month, guestimate of of demographics, related sites and stuff..

You can also use google ad planner to questimate.. or contact the website owner and ask for printscreen of their stats.. Hope it helps..

Im also doing this right now.. if you want to talk about it add me on ym or aim rap8557 lets figure it out together.. need a helping hand also :D

Most places that sell ad spots should tell you their impressions, just email them and ask them.

I would argue that you haven't actually necessarily picked the correct audience in your example - there's a bit of a disconnect between fashion and health. Most women who are into health are probably also into fashion, but it might not be what they are interested in at the particular moment that they are surfing the health forum.

You may or may not get enough cross over to be profitable, but I would look at doing health / weight loss related stuff first (eg. the one month free trial at Jenny Craig offers that are doing the rounds at the moment).

Also forums generally have really shitty CTRs compared to regular websites.
