I've had an account for a few years now and I've been aggressively following on it for about 6 months. I've been able to get to 15,000 followers. The other day I was banned and thought it was surely for aggressive following however twitter states:

This account was suspended for sending multiple unsolicited messages using the reply and/or mention feature.

My account was unsuspended 24 hours later but the weird thing is I never spam the reply or mention feature so I'm very confused. Could this have been triggered by me favoriting a ton of tweets a day. I would usually hit the 1K favorite limit a day.

Now since my account's been suspended what should I do with my following habits. How should I go about following and unfollowing? (or should I even worry about it because my account wasn't actually banned for aggressive following) Thanks.

No no. I got unbanned. But I just want to know the protocol for following and unfollowing after being banned. I'm not sure if I should tone it down if I didn't actually get banned for aggressive following.

They are beginning to really lay the hammer down on favoriting. They know that a lot of people favorite aggressively on authority accounts hoping that others will see their profile and follow them as well. Twitter has been going through a lot of changes recently and is moving closer to an IPO date to go public so be prepared for them to ramp up on banning accounts for stupid things. They don't want to start selling stock to the public and then have to report that 40% of their accounts are fake, spam or bots... because that's the truth.

No wonder all the latest crackdowns and bots getting C&D's. Had no idea they were going for IPO (don't do much of anything with Twitter) makes perfect sense though. Thanks for the info.

Actually it was because of the aggressive following as well...

Started to continue to following today and didn't even go that hard, got suspended again. Let's see if they're any lenient.

Update: They unbanned me within 3 hours. The heck is going on?

Damnit, just as I was reading this I was running an iMacro for following and I come back and I was suspended.

I feel like the twitter game is getting way to saturated and twitter is becoming harder adn harder to get big on.

Twitter's getting more strict. It's gonna be really interesting to see how to "spam" on twitter.

They're pretty much getting rid of the follow and unfollow technique. When you say "werent going that hard" what do you mean? What did you set your delay between followers?

I had it a .5 and got suspended, but I've also done it at 0 second delay and havnt gotten suspended. Now i've been running at 1.5 seconds and I'm fine. I feel like they just randomly suspend!

When I mean that hard is I only followed about 400. Thing is I only got suspended until after I unfollowed. So unfollowing is not ideal.

I wish there was a rule page onto how this works. I just followed like 700 people with 1.5 sec delay and got suspended 3 minutes after.

I think its the amount of people you follow in a certain time period. From now on just to be safe Ima follow 100 at a time every hour or so and unfollow the next day. Keep posting your results!

It's a shame they put a crack down on favoriting. It worked really well if you found the right keywords for your niche.

I'm sure he 99.99% just sent them an e-mail saying how he's sorry for breaking the TOS and etc. There's no other way to unban yourself besides hacking inside Twitter's database.
