Twitter friends validator...WTF

Has Anybody Seen this before

I have just followed about 1000 people with a new account in a specific niche
and about 30% of the followers (auto)DM'ed me with a request for verification?

since it is only +/-30% I am Not to worried, but find it interesting,
cause yesterday I followed about 1000 people with another account and Niche and NOT one verification request...
