Does anyone have an up to date idea of what a safe follow : unfollow ratio for new twitter accounts? And over what time period? Obviously I am trying to avoid having my accounts banned. Normally I would do trial and error but time is a big concern. I looked in a bunch of threads but the opinions are all over the map.

So for example, should I open an account and say follow 400 people a day for 5 days and then unfollow on the 6th and back to adding on the 7th? That sort of thing.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

That info could be helpful, Twitter is on a massive account suspension spree, just for the record, do not use Hummingbird ! as it will automatically suspend your account.

Hummingbird does not get account suspend automatically. Been using it for 5months now. No problem at all. The reason why peoples account get suspended is because they misused it.

Just like how they misused forums like BHW.

Following 400 people a day for 5 days and then unfollow on the 6th and back to adding on the 7th won't get you suspended. Not to worry mate.

Wait and see, you have to keep your eyes on the ratio, just giving u the heads up. I followed less that 800 people in 5 days, unfollowed less than 200 in the same period: account suspended.

Nikki: did u sent out DM's or posted stuff that got ur account suspended?

Not a single DM and all my tweets were real and handwritten and not trying to sell anything ( about 10 a day ) I even had my tweets protected :P

I have used hummingbird on a few accounts and have never had a problem (knock on wood).

I think the big issue is with the unfollowing so that is the main reason i made the thread. Ideally I would love to follow 400 today and unfollow 200 tomorrow to make the account look more natural to potential followers but I think that raises flags with Twitter. I would rather lengthen the process and keep the accounts active.

I have started a few new Twitter experiments in the last few weeks, and I found that I'm generally safe if I do these things:

  1. Change the theme
  2. Upload a photo
  3. Enter my name, location, and URL
  4. Have a few tweets spread out over a week
  5. Follow LESS THAN 500 people every 24 hours until I hit the 2000 following limit
Never had an issue otherwise.

When do you unfollow and start to follow people again? Do you unfollow everyone not following you or just in increments like you do with following in step 5?

I ONLY unfollow folks who are not following me back. You can find an app that will do this for you... check Google.

I will do this usually ONCE every 3 to 5 days. And I always unfollow 50% of the amount I used to follow. Example: If I initially chose to follow 500 people on a Monday, that Friday I will unfollow 250.

NEVER do a bulk unfollow (never unfollow EVERYONE until you're following # is 0.) and also NEVER unfollow > 250 people in one day.

This is advice from my experience in the last few weeks... Others' may differ.

Thanks precision, I have pretty much been doing your system except in smaller numbers. It has been slow going though so I wanted to ramp it up safely.

Understandably. And don't get mad if you get an account banned. It's not the end of the world... Just try again, a bit slower, in smaller amounts, and you'll find that sweet spot, if you catch my drift. Good lucl.

BTW, one thing I have noticed is this. Twitter got wise to the "follow this person's followers" software that has been out there. I have noticed that one of the suspension triggers is if you follow a lot of a single user's followers over a short period. If you mix it up, then it will slow down your suspension (you might live a few hours longer).

There is no way to avoid banning, even if you're just a legitimate active user. Do some searches and you'll find that they have recently been suspending completely legitimate accounts.

I think they must have hired some of Craigslist's anti-spam people :). The new idea seems to be "if we suspend everyone, there will be no spam!"

Do you cap how many you unfollow on the 3rd day?

Well i do to around 20-30% to my following. To get a greater success of people following you then try to fill every entry in your profile.Use some other BG then to go for the Twitter defaults.

Also write the BIO about 3-4 lines telling about yourself. It can be anything but natural and easy to read.

If u have any site then don't cloak and write it as it is.

These things will surely help a person to get a high % of getting followers!!!
