Is twitter a big, fat waste of time?

Is twitter traffic that big a deal?

Everyone is on the twitter marketing bandwagon but is it actually paying off?

From what I have seen, twitter is nothing but a big, fat free advertisement. That is not a good thing. Why? Because everyone is there trying to sell something. That doesn't covert into sales for you.

Followed 800 so far, have not found anyone yet who isn't hawking his/her own product/blog. These people are not interested in buying, they are interested in selling, just like you and I. Messages come back instantly asking me to peruse and otherwise partake of their "wonderdeal", no matter the niche.

The genuine Ma and Pa or teen who are anxious to part with their cash are few and far between. Everyone there has a gimmick or angle they are pushing.

So, where is your bang for your buck's worth of time spent on twitter?

I welcome all thoughts on this subject.

I have around 8k people following me now over 10 accounts. Once i unfollow people they ussually unfollow me back using an automated program. Those are the the spammers. Some people will stick around but i havent found anyone that will pull out thier credit card. I tried using twtad but once they sold and got new ownership i pulled out. Never made a fortune.. or any money for that matter. Waste of time.

Finally, I'm glad somebody hit the nail on the head! If you haven't made any money on Twitter by now you need to quit and go back to ewhoring. Absolute waste of time. All these people trying to give you hints and tips on how to make a buck are jerkin' you around "Big Time" Nobody is making any money off of twitter followers. All the "tweet" websites and twittering software is fluff. The sole purpose is to steal your wallet and laugh in your face. I don't care if you have 10 account or 1000 accounts, 1 follower or 100,000 no one is stupid enough to drop hard earned money off twitter spam. It does my heart good to see a "newbie" with "Posts:1" come out the box with such a sage-like revelation. Waste of time... bravo.

That's just because you haven't spent the time to focus on how to target the real people. ;)

Sorry people. But I beg to disagree. Your opinion on twitter as a waste of time is way out offline. I'm up to $10 a day monetizing twitter, and mind you, I just started a little over couple of weeks ago. All the breaking news, trends, and targeted niche are being discussed at twitter by the second. Think outside of your batcave...

I think the only way to make money with Twitter is to be real. I dont know first hand but this is my best guess at success with Twitter:

Every day my personal Twitter account is followed by OBVIOUS spammers. Like I'm really going to click some idiot's links when the profile has a ratio of followed/followers of 100:1 and 3 updates.

I think even the most uneducated users easily catch onto the spam schemes on Twitter... My friend IRL recently signed up and has been using it everyday. He said he gets about 5 new followers daily that he doesnt even know... I looked at them and I said "ya man, theyre all spammers" and he said "thats what i figured, i just block them now".

You have to find a niche on Twitter and act real. Be honest and bleed your links out slowly so people earn trust with you. Otherwise no one will pay you a single moment of attention.

Well my $0.02 as the americans say - it doesnt convert but for 10 minutes work a day I can get about 150-300 visitors to one of my websites. Its an Egay aff site and the traffic is great for keeping my CTR down. So far I'm making a killing but Twitter makes the traffic not the sales - think outside the box guys!

Twitter works & there is no doubt about it. Nobody needs to make false claims about Twitter working for them. You don't need to be Albert Einstein to understand that any place with an above average amount of activity per day can be used to convert CPA offers & sell products.

Most of you guys are in a classic case of frustration about something you perceived to be easier than it actually turned out to be.

I am no Twitter guru & I've applied exactly the same methods I read on this forum and they worked for me.

I will be testing Twitter over the next few weeks from tomorrow.

Have sat here for a couple of hours this evening to code up an automatic message sender (with a nice front end to make my life easier) to all my accounts.

May take a few minutes each day to set up, maybe once every week will do after the initial account set up and follower gathering (thats what I am about to find out) so will hopefully agree with the guys saying they make $10 per account per day.

Hopefully I can do that with not a lot of effort but I will find that out shortly - 10 bucks per account per day would be my goal for now :)

You could also say google is a waste of time... It just depends on how you use it. Give people what they WANT/NEED. If people are tweeting about hip hop music, what are you going to market to them? The same thing you would market to google users: Ringtones, adsense, amazon, ebay, any music store that has an affiliate section. Heres a hint, twitter users love tweeting on phones right? Why not try mobile offers? Like music downloads, wallpapers, whatever. It's just marketing 101:

    1. Find a group of people.
    2. Find what they want/need.
    3. Show the group of people what they want/need (with your affiliate link of course).
    4. Profit.

I use twitter to pretend I am social networking, I don't spam and join in and start conversations. About once a week i will pop a link in and my clicks and sales are amazing. I block spammers and have some fun on it.

$10 a day seems like a waste of time to me. 99% of people will not make $ off twitter, the people who really figure it out and try hardest will, and probably do quite well. Not for me.

I think you're better off selling a "how to make $ off twitter" product then actually trying to make money off twitter. It's like the gold rush, the ones who made the most and most consistently were the guys selling the supplies.
