Perhaps you have heard about the terror victims in Norway? 69 people, mostly youngsters, were shot down on an Island outside Oslo where they were attending a youth camp by a right-wing extremist dressed as a police officer.

Anonymous webdesigners from Denmark have set up this site, http://www.light4utoya.net, as a gift to the Norwegian people and as a way to honor all of those who died.

Every time you tweet #Ut√łya (the name of the small island where the shooting took place), you shine a light for democracy all over the world.

I am not Norwegian myself and I just read about it in a Swedish newspaper but I think it is a very nice initiative.

I wanted to share the link with you since I know we got many Twitter users here at BHW :)

This is what's wrong with people. They make public displays about caring for someone from far, far away, when instead that could be caring for someone that's right next to them. Only they wouldn't get the publicity, and that feeling that by associating themselves with something they consider to be important, they become important themselves. They use the occasion of someone else's tragedy for their own selfish and superficial purposes.

There's a part of me that feels compelled to say something bland and "community sounding" before making the remarks I REALLY want to make, but I won't. Because to be honest, I don't care about those people. Never did, do not now and never will.

There's an entire planet full of people that have had bad things happen to them. Are those people any less important? Who gets to decide who's tragedy is worth paying attention to, and recieving public support, and who's tragedy plays out to it's bitter conclusion, with an entire planet completely unaware of it?

I say, it's TIME. I say it's time to start calling this stuff for what it is: a false pretense to direct attention to a subject that has no relevance to the day-to-day lives of average people in order to make a superficial and shallow minority of the population feel like they are IMPORTANT and USEFUL.

They aren't. They can't be bothered to exert themselves to take care of their own family, or their neighbor, or the person down the street. Instead, they have to cast their attention all the way to the other side of the planet in order to be able to "do something", and then it's only if everyone is watching them do it.

This is what's wrong with us. We believe in lies and illusions, and are expected by everyone around us to maintain these illusions. We pay exorbitant tax rates in order to "take care of" a percentage of the population that has grown fat off the efforts of other people, and they will remain content to do so until the day they die. These people have no pride, no sense of shame and no desire to do anything other than have their sustainance spoon-fed to them, and our acceptance of this intolerable dynamic starts in places just like this one, with a seemingly "good" post offering the illusion of compassion when in fact it's a self-serving attempt at making someone else both look and feel good, and all that's required is for everyone else to be shamed into compliance.

I refuse, and encourage others to do so as well. It's time for the Producers to start forcing the Parasites to understand the nature of the power in this relationship, and it is they that need us for their their survival, and not the other way around.

Your post is to stupid to dignify with a response really. Myself, and many with me I am sure, can show both love and compassion towards people in our nearby surroundings as well as for people on the other side of the world.

I feel sorry for you if your heart is not that big.

You are such a good, good person, and I feel so ashamed. Here, let me pay even more in taxes. Does that make me a good person now, or should I pay even more?

I feel sorry for that... Wish I had a twitter account. Anyway, posted on my FB wall so if any of my friend has twitter, they'll tweet.

Here in Karachi, Pakistan (Which is the biggest city in Pakistan) a killing world record has been set up by the terrorists. There has been a kill every 40 minutes :( And what do we call them? Muslims? Pakistanis? No, I don't think so. No True Muslim or Pakistani would kill 7 year old children of his fellow, 50 year old man going to mosque for prayer...

So if you guys tweet about Norway, I'd respectfully request to remember us as well.
