I did a search and didn't find any reference to this article or to this guy on BHW.
This is one of those late night scams.

    Noah,

try searching for "Don Lapre" instead...you will get a few hits.

    but damn, $52M????????

fuck, I'm in the wrong biz!!!!

so he was selling a "WSO" in other words, for about $236....and about 220,000 folks paid him that sum.

    DAMN!!!!

I guess the lesson to this story is, get a product that actually does work and put it on TV.

I've never seen the actual product but there's a possibility that it did actually work, but people were too lazy to actually do it. As all us BHWers know, you've got to put real effort into your internet business to make it work, whereas I suspect that many of Lapre's customers were looking for a zero effort get rich quick scheme...

Also it seems like most of the charges are related to fraud and money laundering rather than the fact that his products may not have worked as advertised.

$52 million is some pretty epic marketing... Respect to the guy.

I do remember his commercials at night when I was a kid so this was a while back but it had something to do with having a 1-900 number and placing ads to promote it. I heard some people hated him some didn't in the end i do think its the effort of the individual. Most say the guy did have some selling power. BTW, no i didn't get the 900 number lol hehe.
