    Hello BHW'ers

I am seeing a ton of high PR domains going on for sale nowadays.. A majority of those are FAKE! But a regular buyer won't know that..

So, create some awareness, I am starting this thread. I will be listing a few methods that I know to spot fake PR.

NOTE: I'm no expert on domaining.

    Use Google's Info

    Domain: Movimiento2012.org
    Alleged PR - 7

Clearly, the domain was 301 redirected to this high PR domain.

    Use cekpr.com

    Domain: Gratismoodle.com
    Alleged PR - 7

    Check Whois

    Domain: pagerankservices.info
    Alleged PR - 10

Really? I domain that is not even 2 months old, now has a PR10.

    See Domain History

    Domain: umarsyah.com
    Alleged PR - 9

Go to wayback.archive.org and search for archived pages of the domain. If there are no pages in there, you should grow suspicious.

    Check Backlinks

    Domain: Ever83.com
    Alleged PR - 7

This is MajesticSEO's analysis of the domain. So no backlinks, and PR 7? Strange.

    Anything else?

These are just a few methods that I would use while buying high PR domains. If you know any other methods, post 'em here!

can we use any bulk pr checking tool for eg:- that provided with scrape box to do this pr checking or will the fake pr also beats the scrapebox?

No. SB return the PR, it doesn't tell whether it's fake or legit. However, the Fake PR Checker addon might be working. Not checked..

site:yourdomain.com is also a good Google search to perform.
Its not a definitive test, but for a newly delete domain, it can be nice to see some indexed pages.

For dropped/expired domains, site: isn't as much reliable. But for live sites, yes, it is!

    Check PR of Inner Pages

    Domain: addicted2carbs.com
    Alleged PR - 9

Genuine PR domains will always have PR on inner pages as well. In this example, I took a static page (URL) addicted2carbs.com/?paged=2 and if you notice, it's PR is "NA". Hmm.. I run SB, scrape all indexed pages and check their PR, all are "NA". Definitely fake!

I always check info:domain when buying from DP. They clearly stated in their sale thread that it's dropped domain. That would be fine.

The info: command isn't a sure shot. Sometimes, the redirect is done just after a PR update, and removed just before the next PR update. This makes the PR of the domain high, but due to continuous crawling, Google's servers store the latest info of the domain.

I see PR8 and PR9 being offered for under 1000 bucks at DP and if the Pagerank was legit it would cost 10 times that. If you see a domain that is offered for a low amount than it is almost every time fake.

Well no, I got a PM at DP that a person was selling a PR9 for 2.5k. I checked for fake PR, PM'ed him the proof, and he closed his thread!

    See the whois:

Domain Registration Date: Mon Jan 30 02:15:48 GMT 2012

So, in just 28 days, this domain got a PR7?

This, my friend, is the proof!

This needs to be highlighted. Simply using the info: command will not always be indicitive of genuine PR. You need to do a complete analysis as stated by matrix if you don't want to get scammed.
