I have several gigs of Fiverr, 1 is to build a footprint free PBN site. So last night a guy bought 2 of them. When I went to chat with him and ask the setup questions, I realized something was deeply wrong.
When I asked what niche, I got the reply: " what niche do you think I should get".
When I asked for his money site link, I got the reply: "I'm just starting out." - Yeah, so?
The buyer was convinced that if they bought PBN sites that they would rank and give them money. When I inquired about how they would get money, they replied: "you get paid for having high ranking, and I heard PBN links give high ranking." - I never could figure out what he expected to rank...I guess the PBN sites...
I spent 30 minutes explaining the basics, explaining money sites. All that fun.
Ended up refunding the money, since obviously a PBN was not what they needed.
I shared some good links on getting started, offered advice and such.
Today he requested a custom offer from another gig where I build out starter authority sites, offering more money than he would have paid for the 2 PBN domains.

The moral: sell people what they need, NOT what they think they need.

Never be afraid to turn down a sale, do so as politely as possible, might lead to something bigger.

There is a method in this madness.

I will turn away people if they are way in over their depth, it is better for everyone involved as even if they don't come back looking to buy something different you don't get hassled for silly things or refund requests and it is just better all round for everyone involved.

He sounds like a Good Long-term customer too. All have their mind set on what they hear and you can't tell them anything different. I was coaching two guys how to do something non-internet related., they know I know what I'm doing I been doing it 20+ years. Both these individuals would not follow the directions given, listening to other people over me who had NO experience. Yet, they both want to call me when things Fuck You.
So you made the decision by offering to turn him down.

You broke the 1st rule of acquisition!!

lol only kidding you definitely did the right thing, if not only to save yourself from drama. But you ended up getting a better deal out of it and a client that I'm sure trusts you and your advice a lot more, which is way more valuable than a few hundred bucks.

I usually turn away idiots that want me to guarantee 1st page, ask for discounts or anything like that, but spent the time to educate this guy.

I love having to argue with people to not give me their money! Lol.
Yeah, he trusts me, and now that I have given him some great advice, he seems to be learning/reading as we talk through what I am building him.

you should build him a money site with those money
I do that, but charge more for money sites.

You're good man.

And by preselling/educating (trust building) something else that he needed you get bigger order.

You really deserved it

These are wise words. Unfortunately most people are blinded by the money and don't have the skill and/or patience to find out what a customer really wants.

This should be sticky since this a very valuable lesson for everyone who wants long-term success. Solve problems instead of chasing the money.
