Trying to understand mobile proxy farming

I've been reading up on mobile proxy farming in hopes of starting my own. I've been reading prodigiously, but I have some sizeable knowledge gaps. I'm not looking for handouts--rather more information or resources where I can fill in these knowledge gaps.

From what I understand:

People use mobile proxies for SEO, among other legitimate and illegitimate uses

The legality of mobile proxies is ambiguous in the United States

The equipment involved is at least Raspberry pi, USB modems that are SIM capable, an unlimited mobile data plan, and code to run everything

Mobile proxies are not aboveboard (e.g., payments in crypto, only advertised on places like BHW)

Please correct me if I'm wrong on any of these. I don't really understand how these are marketed and sold, and to whom. Additionally, how would a client access your SIM USB devices? Through a static IP (raspberry pi) and then from there into a rotating IP on the USB modems?

I am eager to learn and to be corrected.

Hi, bumping this thread because it sounds interesting. My understanding is that most of these providers sell traffic either from hacked devices, or from apps that pay you for connection sharing https://geekflare.com/bandwidth-sharing-passive-income/. That said, with some providers you see them offering only addresses from a specific locale (like UK), in which case I think that they are doing pretty much what you describe with cheap OTC sim cards and HW to run them (I'd probably just buy a bunch of usb modems and connect them all to a single linux server)

Most of the small providers and even the big ones must use platforms like honeygain, peer2profit etc and paying $0.1 per GB and sometimes much less depending on the location of the proxy, these platforms use the bandwidth that these people don't use and pay a pittance, for except in the ones I've seen, I think the biggest challenge in being a provider would be to first get people to buy your proxies before getting those who sell the unused bandwidth because if you look first for those who have the bandwidth, they won't receive it and they abandoned it.

So, does that mean the market for 4g mobile proxies is small or not worth getting into?

I still don't understand who these proxies are sold to. People who want to do SEO? How does one go about selling these services? Placing an ad on Facebook?

people like me who want to spam social media sites would buy proxies.
Others may buy it for scraping purposes. for example
one wants to scrap keywords from google for PAA sites. thats a very popular reason

Make no mistake, the market is big and as bigvision already said, proxies are bought in large quantities to create accounts on social networks, bots, web scraping, online shopping with cc, create gmails and accounts on various platforms, I think it's hard to enter the market because it's very competitive but I've never tried it so I can't say it's really hard

The answer is easy, go to Marketplace or Proxies for sale and try to count how many sellers are selling proxies on BHW. As for why you need a proxy, a proxy is basically a connection to the internet and many projects and businesses need that connection to replicate their work.

People who manage and create high quality accounts need 4G proxies so the market is really large and only increasing in size.
