Trying to setup .htaccess redirect

    i am trying to set up a .htaccess redirect on an image, but now I am just getting a 500 internal server error can anyone help?

    Make sure you're uploading it as ascii and/or editing it in ascii mode

    sorry im not quite sure what you mean by ascii?

    he means the format you upload the file in your ftp program;

    ie in filezilla

    go to;

    Edit; Settings; Transfers; File Types.

    I don't know what FTP program you're using but there's 2 "Transfer Modes" Ascii and Binary which you can set in any FTP program. Usually there's an "Auto" setting but not all of them have it set right for a .htaccess file.

    Check your options in your FTP program, unless you're using a web interface which then your problem is the permissions on the .htaccess are not set to 755/read OR you have a an error in the htaccess file.

    You are probably now extremely confused. If yes then paste your HTACCESS code into a message so I can see if it's formated properly.

    ascii mode means text mode , u have ascii(text) mode, binary mode,
    auto mode. select ascii mode because it does not introduce any
    unwanted charecters like puncuations , line breaks ... etc.

    check your apache error log, it will tell you why you receive 500 error.. probably bad code in your .htaccess..

    i am using cyber duck, does it matter if it is a word document, I use textedit because im on a mac

    Yes it matters, open notepad, paste your code in then reupload
