There are a lot of people (and service providers on BHW) still sending blog comments and other garbage backlinks at 2nd or beyond tiers.

The thought behind it of course is to get things indexed and start the PR growth process. However, it's become very clear these methods are going to do more harm then good long term, if they are not already in many cases.

The problem is if you have a tier that is slammed with these garbage links, the trustrank of those sites is going to be horrible and just like the pagerank that continues to get passed all the way up to the top, the trustrank will too.

People are assuming because it's 2, 3 or even more tiers down, they are insulated. However if that was the case, then there would be no reason to think there was any benefit to this method either.

I'm sure there will be many who disagree with me here and that's fine. My word to the wise though is to use common sense and logic. Think like Google and look at the whole picture. To me it seems very clear, these methods will hurt you long term and if you aren't in it for the long term, you'll never be successful at IM.

Foresee where Google is going and beat them there!
