A friend of mine has asked me to try and rank his site in google.co.uk for the keyword 'gas safety certificate'. If I am able to rank his site for him he will pay for further words to be ranked.

I have ranked many other sites before but for some reason I am having trouble with this site.

    Any advice would be great.

    His site is
    Code:
    www.leinster-gas.com/index.html
and he wants to rank for gas safety certificate.

I know that this page does not have that term on it all that much (i think maybe twice, including the footer).

I have done quite a bit of off-site seo (such as article backlinks, bookmarking, comments, pinged, rss submitted etc) and have been doing so for about 10 days. I know this is not a lot of time to be working on the site but i would expect to at least see the site in the top 40 pages as this keyword shouldn't be that difficult. I was hoping for some advice in case i am wasting my time (the site is not in the top 4- pages).

I even made some on-site changes but if i type
    Code:
    www.leinster-gas.com/index.html
into the search engine, the description i changed does not appear, the old description appears.

Does trying to rank the home page with /index.html at the end make any difference?

    Any advice would be welcome.

    Home Page:
put gas safety certificate at the front of the title.
Then add some more content to the page.
then have about 5 articles written and spin them out 100 times each, and submit one set of articles each day. so on monday you have 100 articles go out. this will help get your site re indexed.

Yeah, the on-page seo is basically non-existent. Your targeted search term is only on the page once, at the very bottom, there is basically no content on the homepage which means there is no related/lsi content on the page, the targeted search term is not at the front of the page title for the most juice, I would mention it in the title and the description a couple of times.

Start with correcting the on-page factors and then move on to off-page factors like link building.

The way his page is designed I am not sure if he would be willing to add more content. I actually sent him an email last night asking him to do this.

I will make the changes to the title.

You can add content to the top of the page or even at the bottom. You also need to add in your HTags. If your on page seo is crap your ranking will be crap unless no one else is in your market going after that keyword.
