In this thread, there was already one user describing his experience with a 301-redirection, after his site's got hit by Penguin: 301in out penguin - my experience

I already made a post there, this one:
Basically, I went ahead and took one site that got hit by a penalty very bad. This site had a lot of keyword links, which didn't left a natural anchor link profile. This was definitely the reason for the loss in rankings.

So I registered a new domain, using the keyword directly in the domain name. I went ahead and put a good 1.000 word article on the first page, with ~10+ links to authority site's from the niche, aswell.

Today I checked the rankings, and I saw the site sitting in position 5# for the main term! The term has only around 4.000 exact searches, but the AdWords PPC is like 3-4€.

    What happened here now?
I think the trick could be, that I have put the most used keyword-link in the domain name.
This way, the links aren't anymore keyword link's, but rather BRAND link's.

That's it, take want you want from this experience, test & profit.

I did that a few weeks back. My rankings boosted back to the top, but the penalty transferred to the new domain after about 10 days. Hope your rankings stick man!

I have the same experience, the penalty was carried over to the new domain.

There is a way to filter out the penalty, because people are doing it. You can also simply just rinse/repeat as necessary if your monetization covers the costs /makes sense.

omg pinguin has kill my website too. I got a -300 penalty on my differents keywords position. But after few days, my website is on page 8-10 for most of keywords. Maybe google know that they was so rude :p. I suggest you to wait a little more :)

After 301 one of my sites it's been up for 3 weeks and did not transfer penalty yet which well paid for the transfer and new domain the first couple of days. the new domain used only one of the keywords in the main keyword phrase so I don't think it had much to do with the brand name like the OP was describing but if it gets hit again I will include it. No new links were built to the site and everything exactly the same.

Hey Guys, don't waste time on 301 , or even 401, 501 redirects, useless. Finally you would get hit again.

Just back to the normal way. You all are not the real competititor of google, Google could crack all your years effort with the small finger.

I had tried to clean the site, clean the links, input unique contents to the pages. Finally, the result begins to go on the good direction.
Some of the keywords back to page 1#. This takes around 15 days. The best performanced rank is dancing, from 9-12#.
The others all come back to the 2nd page. Although still no increase on the traffic, while i am sure i could back to the top 5.

301'd about 3 weeks back and the new site hasn't even moved into the top hundred.
Could it be because I didn't do any backlinking to the new site?

To the new one or the old one?
Well, if your site didn't had any solid backlinks, then I guess it's no coincidence, that it doesn't come back.

Send me a PM and I'll check your site out if you want.

Mine is now for 8 day's still ranking.

What if you don't 301 and just transfer everything over and then nofollow, noindex the old site?

I haven't done any backlinking to the new one. I agree thats probably the reason, only have myself to blame! Will probably take the 301 down and try it on another new domain, properly this time.

Thanks mate, will shoot a pm.

After penguin one of my sites was completely deindexed (site:mysite.com = nothing) so I figured it was dead. A month or so later I had an empty slot order for one of my wiki gigs so I blasted it with 15k wiki links with tons of anchor texts and like three days later I was back on page 1. I still seem to be penalized, though, since prior to the update I was a strong #1 and now I'm #9. But maybe the ultra diversity from links (since it's easy to find a bunch of unique wiki domains) combined with having hundreds of possible anchors made it look more natural even though what I was really doing was extremely unnatural.

I tried this and what happened was google would not index the homepage. I think my new site got a duplicate content penalty since everything was exactly the same..
