Trick A Link Counting Spider?

    I don't know if this will work but let's discuss it.

    I'm going to use a forum profile as an example. In the signature section, if you add
    Code:
    <a href="whereever.com">anchor</a>
    In most cases, it doesn't show it as an actual link but it does show the entire HTML tag. Now there are plenty of sites that do not allow links in their signatures but the above HTML tag should show as is.

    The question is, would this trick spiders that are counting backlinks?

    My guess would be that it will trick it.

    Has anybody ever done a forum blast testing this theory? If it does work then it would increase the number of forums that can be blasted and increase the number of backlinks that can be placed on other sites (where links aren't allowed), not just forums.
