I don't mean to add to the drama surrounding current COVID as a topic, so please don't turn this thread into a pro/anti vax topic, this is rather a post describing my situation dealing with COVID for my cats, and I'd just want to bring to light out of intent of bringing awareness to something that might just save your pet some day.

Just over 2 years ago a few months before lockdowns, I adopted an 8 year old cat which had perfect health after an initial blood test/checkup. 4 months later, my cat gained a fever and was lethargic for a few days, I called and set up a vet appointment on Saturday, my vet appointment was set up for Thursday, and by Tuesday, my Cat had declined, deteriorated and DIED by Tuesday, 1 day before his vet visit..

That day I took him to the vet emergency room while he was crashing, and within 15 minutes of emergency treatment, the vet told me my cat had gone into cardiac arrest and died.

All they could tell me was that "he had fluid in lungs, common for cats with COVID" - and that's all I took from that situation for another 2-3 months, I was heartbroken, I dropped out of life to mourn my literal only friend in this country.

A few months after this situation, I decided to adopt new cats, and within a few days, I was on my way to pick up 2 twin kittens from a house 90 miles away.

The first 6 months went great, with lockdown and my cats, I got to know my 2 cats well,

Around this May, one of cats started losing weight just like my old cat, it lost half of its weight, it was around 13 lb and was SUDDENLY around 7 lb, sleeping all day, with sick looking eyes just like my old cat.

I took my cat to the vet, and just the trip and blood tests at the vet were enough to put my cat in a death situation where my doctor said its vitals were so bad, he literally gave me the number to an emergency vet, and said that my cat showed all the symptoms of feline COVID, and was very likely going to die within a few weeks..

Terrified, I searched FIP/COVID for cats at home that night and found that this was a very common phenomenon happening all over the world. People having perfectly normal cats, going sick, and dying within a few weeks with unexplainable and undiagnosable symptoms.

So..

After some research, I found google scholar article about some research done with anti viral medication that is used to treat this condition, but that it was not approved by FDA/vets/whatever in America so there's no way to buy the treatment..

That night, I reached out to the lady in charge of the group for the treatment, and explained what was happening, sent her my cats blood test results, and she quickly confirmed that this was very likely this illness, and that this treatment was actually possibly useful for my cat....

I pondered for exactly a day, but as the day ended, my cat went into respiratory arrest.. She was unable to breathe, was spitting out fluid, throwing up, sweating.

This lady, which I had just met on a "black market" facebook group for this guerilla treatment said I should meet her urgently, it was literally 1 am CA time, and she was 45 minutes away.. AND my CAT WAS DYING (not fucking joking)..

I threw my cat into a blanket and drove the 45 minutes or so it was so Seal Beach, CA, and met up with a lady past midnight, who used some unmarked fluid from a vial and injected my cat with it, and told me to go home..

When I got to this lady, I had a sick, sweaty, thin cat who had not eaten for 3 days..

By the time I got home, which was about 45 minutes away, my cat seemed to have A LOT of strength back..

As soon as I opened her transport box, she jumped out, stood up and meowed, and instantly went to her food and ATE A WHOLE BOWL OF HER FOOD!

She ate SO MUCH that I actually opened a new can of food for her, and she ATE THE WHOLE THING.

..

After that night, I woke up and my cat looked like she had literally never been sick.. After 3 weeks of looking sickly/dead, my cat was literally back to normal overnight..

So I ordered more treatments, which would take 3 days to be delivered, so I stuck with the local veterinarians suggestions of antibiotics

At this point, I literally thought maybe the antibiotics were working.. But within 2-3 days of that injection, my cat started crashing again, and after taking her back to her vet, the vet confirmed that she actually did have FIP and that the injection was helping her, but that since this medication was not allowed, they could not help me treat her, so their suggestion was to euthanize her.. This is when I took the choice to buy the medication and began officially treating her for feline SARS-CoV-2.

Let me say that cats can get COVID. There's a very common (80% of cats get this) strain of COVID that affects cats, and 1% of those 80% get a 100% FATAL viral disease called FIP (Feline infectious peritonitis) which up til a few years ago, had no cure. If your cat got COVID, it died within 3-4 weeks.

So what now?

Let me remind you, just a few weeks ago, my vet recommended we euthanize my cat because of this "100% fatal disease", and was acting surprised when I called back saying my cat was now on Remdesivir, and was still alive.

The vet disclosed that he had seen.. hear this

90% OF THE CATS HE SAW THAT HAD THIS TREATMENT SURVIVED THIS 100% FATAL DISEASE...

When I asked her, why she did not inform me about this treatment, she said that Remdesivir was being used to treat humans, and that Gilead Sciences was silencing these scientists from using GS-441524 to cure cats from a 100% fatal disease, so much that they COULD NOT EVEN SPEAK ABOUT IT!

It's been 2 weeks now.. My cat is healthier than ever, she takes 8 pills a day, which cost $7.50 PER PILL, but she has, I swear on my life, survived what seemed to me, and confirmed by vets to be a 100% FATAL disease.. From a dead looking cat, that was not moving, eating, sweating, and 6 lb cat, to 9 lb, active, talkative, new cat just within DAYS of treatment..

I'm not someone who easily falls for fads or fake news, but this was some situation I personally found myself in and thought I should share, maybe if one of your cats has this disease, know that it's treatable, and that it exists..

But what's most crazy to me is how effective this drug was in treating my only friend and companion in the US, even though this treatment is expensive, and that I am thankful that I can afford it, for those saying viruses are some fake idea out there, you are so wrong it makes my gut hurt. It's not even evident and common in humans, but in animals too.. I'm telling you there's a 100% fatal disease in cats, which just like COVID is 100% treatable, but the treatment is owned by a massive pharma company, who is holding IP over our heads like a carrot on a stick.. What a shame..

Anyway what can you take from this? If you own a cat that suddenly loses weight and starts looking like they are dying, your cat has COVID, and it can be treated, but the treatment is only available from the black market, because big, shitty, greedy corporations rather scrap this treatment because they were not successful in penetrating the human COVID market.

If you wanna look up anything I'm talking about, search for gs-441524 or FIP/Feline or Feline Infectious Peritonitis and just read this literal insane situation where people have to get black market pills and shots for their cats because one company who has the cure will not allow its reputation to be used for anything besides treating human COVID, when they have the cure to a disease to affects 1% of 80% of the worlds cats.. O_o

I so sorry for your lose!! But your passion to save your new cat from this illness is inspiring! I didn't know that cats can get covid, I heard about dogs, I own two dogs thank god they are in good health!!

I am happy that you found the treatment but this shitty company that know the cure doesn't give a shit about cats or humans.

But I am wondering how your cats suddenly got the covid ? Do you let them outside the house ?

I don't want to get into how I think my cats got COVID, but no neither me nor my cats ever leave the house..

And the cat food and supplies that I order are from Amazon or Chewy..

Lastly without putting my tinfoil hat on, China has been known to supply/taint pet supplies on Amazon, but China also supplies the cure for FIP ._.

I'm not gonna say "China" made my cats sick, in the months between where I received the cats, and when the cat got the virus, I literally did not do anything besides go to Target/Walmart or order their cat food from Amazon.

My cats never went outside, and I had them for over 6 months after adopting them so they did not get FIP from the home which I adopted them from.

Another thing to consider, I had 2 twin cats, and only 1 is sick, the other one never got sick.

Last October, I took them to the vet to get their annual checkup, that is their only outside point of content and that was October, and the 1/2 cats that showed symptoms showed symptoms over 5 months after her last vet visit..

This deductively leaves 2 sources for me, either me going to supermarket to buy stuff brought back this virus, or MAYBE it was in some chinese cat food i bought ov4er the past few months (conveniently the cure for this disease is only sold by China :pepehmm:) ;/

This virus is so weird shit, or they don't tell us the truth. Maybe change food supplier, but poisoning food is too far fetched, but possible!
Take care of yourself and your lovely cats!

Totally, scary shit. When it happened the first time, I was like yeah right, then the second time I was like holy shit, this is serious. Doing my own research, my mind is blown XD

Why do you LOVE cats so much?! Do not get me wrong my wife and I have cats but they are not allowed inside our house as we just use them to catch and kill rats and their baby rats.. They are not pets.. Different cultures I suppose mate.

Cats are super cute especially when they purp in your hug. If you raise them in-house they learn how to act more humane. If you raise them outside they are more in their natural habitat, especially hunting mice, snakes etc etc.

Do you have any pets in house?
