All you guys in the travel niches have you noticed the prevalence of tripadvisor and lonelyplanet pages in lots of travel related searches.

Loosing a place or two to these guys isn't the end of the world and could even be a bit of a blessing in disguise.

With tripadvisor, there is so much that you can edit yourself, it's now fairly easy to turn their high rankings into traffic sources for yourself, to do this I suggest using my "good cop/bad cop" method (posted before - so search or see abbreviated method below).

If it's the forum section of tripadvisor simply make a post on that page (using an aged pre-prepared account of course).

I'm currently testing how easy it is to rank a tripadvisor page and although the test has only been running a few days, I've managed to take a tripadvisor page from the 150's to page one with a single GSA run.

Good Cop / Bad Cop Method

this is a simple way of getting links and edits to stick. All you need is a few accounts at the place you want to spam.

treat one of these accounts like gold, this is the good cop - edit things, help people, etc. basically be an upstanding member of that particular online community.

then use a throwaway account to trash the page - put links everywhere, change info etc, just make a really good mess of it.

then use the good cop account to "clean" the page, leaving one juicy link to your site.

mate - if I was selling services I'd have a BST, not try to do it slyly through a post.

I beleive every IM'er should devote about 15 minutes or so a day to maintaining "clean" identities on sections of the internet where they'll come in handy. the prolification of "log in with facebook" options has made this so much easier.
