    Hey,

I know there are a lot of BHW members from this part of the world. I have to make a decision on whether or not to visit (today or tomorrow) and I'd like to know the following:

    - I've heard Manilla is very polluted and dirty - is this true?

    - Also, I'm looking for good bar scene / nightlife and the ability to get a good apartment with internet. I have plenty of money.

Can anybody help me out with some information?

    Much appreciated.

    Micallef

    Hi
Where are you in Chiang Mai?

I am down near the airpoirt

Singapore is not bad in my O.P. especially if you got the money.

Manila is quite crowded and there is a lot of poverty.

But there are other places in Philippines,

Cebu is not bad too, and there are some island near by quite good

Hey mate. The best option is baguio. Because Philippines is experiencing el niƱo phenomenon right now.Its very HOT here except for baguio which is in the mountains so its not that HOT there. And baguio is NOT that polluted and crowded, and LESS violent (if you don't mess with them).

There are some place in manila that we can call dirty BUT NOT all places like makati, ortigas, libis which is very commercialize place.

You can buy cheap condo in those places and I think internet connection is very accessible since its very commercialize place.

I am not that sure if you can have a reliable internet connection in baguio since its on the mountains.

The typical internet speed here is 1-2 mbps for $40-$50 bucks. But some ISP offers 5-10 mbps for business people.

I have been in the Philippines for two years so far. I need to know how long you want to stay? Most ex-pats live just outside Cebu and I can't blame them. I am in Manila due to work. Manila, is dirty and poluted. Good nightlife though. I prefer going to Alabang for a night out however. You will not be allowed to "Own real property" so you can not buy property. Renting should not be a problem. The price of rent will vary greatly and may be marked up by some because "you rich American". I do have some problems with this place but over all I love being here and don't want to go back to America.

Hey there. I leave on the northern part of mindanao, southern island part of the philippines. Do not believe them, that it is very violent here. I leave in Cagayan de Oro for 8 years now and it is very peaceful here. No Traffic, No pollution, Has a very good internet connection, Peaceful, Livable, People are friendly, getting a property is not that hard, going to place is very easy, Night life and bars are good, Leaving here is very cheap compared to other city like manila ang cebu.

There is a near by island which can be traveled in 2 hrs if you need to relax and cause they have a hot pool there which the water is heated from the steam coming out from the volcano. Basically it is very nice and perfect to leave in cagayan de oro. And oh they also have white water rafting here. Google it you'll see. Hit me up i will help you around if you decided to come here. Cheers :drinking2
