Ran my site through the page analysis on Traffic Travis and I have an A+.

Problem is that I have all my body text in collapable panels at the bottom of my page. How do these rank with search engines?

I think it looks much neater than having a load of paragraphs at the bottom of your site but as I've not seen many other people doing it I'm concerned that it may be damaging my onpage SEO.

    Cheers.

    TeamRoyster,

Having your text in collapsible panels should not hurt your SERP ranking. However, the content needs to be easily found by users coming to your site. Most people will not look for another link to open additional text on your page. This will decrease the time a user spends on your page and reading around your site.

Personally, I use collapsible content for very few situations. For example, additional details (Secondary importance) on a product or service. But for the sake of reducing the page length or cleanliness I would not. I guess it really depends on what context you are using them.

    Best of luck,

I like collapsible areas when I'm trying to fit a little more content on a page without cluttering it up or making it longer.

To the best of my knowledge, you won't see any kind of algorithmic penalty by using these. On the other hand, if you are trying to hide content by sticking a bunch of it in a collapsible area that's either hidden, or otherwise deceptive, you could face a manual penalty if you're caught.
