    Hi Guys,

I have a music production website selling video courses.

Yesterday i released a new course and got the usual influx of traffic but this only lasts a coule of days then its back to 40-60 visits a day.

Whats the best practices/tools for keeing my traffic high and by proxy my sales?

Currently i post legitimate posts to 10 forums, i send a newsletter out every 2 weeks, i use yahoo answers, i post to my blog (content could be better) then i social bookmark on the main sites, i use signatures with relivant keywords and thats about it.

What else could i be doing? will something like Scrapebox help me out a lot Will building loads of WEB 2.0 properties make a lot of difference? should i try and get a JV as i release at least one course a month? or affiliates??

Many thanks for your help, i feel like i am banging my head against a brick wall with this traffic stuff but i am sure if i can increase my targetted traffic i can at least double my income every month.

    Thanks

    Mark

PS - should i be looking to outsource this stuff?

If you're not having luck ranking for your target keywords, might as well outsource it. Let them focus on a few keywords, while you practice/hone your skills on a different set.

You can also try marketing using youtube. You can post up short clips of your video courses and direct views to your site for the full video course.

    Hi,

I all ready have a very succesful youtube site with over 120,000 views to free videos etc.

I rank on the first page of google for one of the keyword phrases i use so i guess i just need to keep plodding on but i find it frustratign that the traffic just seems to disapear literally the day after i launch a new course, its frustrating, there is no consistancy.

Maybe i should be aiming for more deifficult keywords, not sure really :(

    thanks for the reply :)

When you say there is an initial flood of traffic for new product releases, where is that coming from?

Also, in general, you should always be working toward the goldmine keyword phrases. In the short term it's fine to get ranking for easier keywords and do all of these alternative ways of generating traffic, but in the long term don't you want to be able to sit back and relax a bit? That won't ever happen if you don't get yourself ranked for the 'retirement' keywords as I like to call them. The ones that bring in steady sales and consistent traffic without having to spin your wheels posting tons of content, videos, products, etc...

But then again, traffic is literally the gold of SEO. If you know how to get traffic, you have an extremely valuable skillset and can make tons of money in any niche. If you can't get traffic, it's a little like saying, "I buy and sell stocks, but I'm not making much money. What should I do?" The answer is what successful SEO guys have spent countless hours learning to do.

    Hi,

This initial traffic is coming from the forum posts and newsletter emails i post on the day of release.

I guess i just need to use google, find out what the most searched for keywords are in my niche and try to rank for those, this i know but its the best way to do this that i am trying to figure out.

Is the best way to get the top 10 keywords say and write high quality articles on each, spin them onto web 2.0 properties and link back to my money page?

    thanks again for your help,

    Mark

I am looking at doing the following:

I have purchased scrapebox which i will use for backlinks etc.

I am creating 10 web 2.0 properties with articles on them for the top 10-50 keywords in my niche

The web 2.0 properties, i assume they all link to each other with high ranking keywords being used as either anchor text to the money site, google organics (in the text of the articles) or anchor text linking back to the money site or all of the above....can someone advise me on how good this "linkwheel" plan is or isnt?

    thanks

Try using traffic automation - Twitter, YouTube, etc.

Uhm, let's take a different approach to this... Are you making any money from the current traffic? Are you getting additional subscribers to your mailing list from the current traffic? Are you monetizing your list properly? Because it sounds to me like you aren't, a newsletter every two weeks is nothing.

I would personally like to see your site before casting any judgements on the proposed backlink wheel jobby .. it may be something else on the site itself that is holding it back . .give us the details and we should be able to help you some more ...

thanks for the replies guys :)

BGtrix I use Twitter, Youtube, facebook groups, social bookmarking for my blog also.

DamageX - I make a minimum of £300 a month with the site having generated about £15-20,000 since July 2009. (deending on the course i release the income can get to £1000 + for a couple of months)
My list is constantly growing but not by leaps and bounds but at least a few sign ups every day.
The newsletter every 2 weeks is new and is planned to run parallel to my product releases.
Goldie I am definataly sure i am missing something, what i don tknow but i know my traffic sucks but my conversion rate for this year so far os over 1% which i believe to be not too bad (but i am not sure).

I dont think i can post links here yet as i havent been very active but i will send info on PM if anyone want to have a look at the site.

thanks for all your help, its appreciated.

Mark, how big is your list? I have a feeling you're under-monetizing it.

DamageX - My list is around 1500 which i am currently transfering into Aweber manually as they wont allow me to submit all names without going through a reconfirmation process (which i did with 312 confirms i am sure most of the confirmation emails went into spam as all names went through my own opt in process initially). So not the biggest list to be sure (i also have 463 subscribers on youtube) but i am convinced your right.

    thanks for your help,

    Mark

...the question is as far as i can see, what are you doing with the traffic that "does" already arrive? Are you giving them enough to come back? Are you engaging the visitors? Have you built a community around your website? Having a community can help tremendously, in not only creating content, but also getting others to join and getting you new ideas...

steviep - i have often thought about a community, like a forum for each vieo course i release, maybe i shoudl get this done ASAP.

I release free videos every few weeks but have, as of today, started to make videos so i can release once a week which means i can then send newsletetrs once a week instead of twice a week without hassling my customers.

I assume the best free forums are the phpbb ones, maybe i will get one on the site.

Maybe i need to rethink a strategy where i really interact and kee in touch with my subscribers and followrs on all platforms.

    thanks

I would advise against this. You need to realize that an unmoderated forum will allow the smallest dissatisfaction to appear in public and all it takes is one disgruntled and determined forum member to turn the bulk of the community into a mob raging against you.

So stick to e-mail, it will allow for one-way communication, for the most part, but you can always mention that they can contact you using the same address they get your newsletters from. That way you can deal with any issues on a one-by-one case and not risk any public backlash.

You should definitely look into releasing some content like twice a week or more. Doesn't have to be a full video, keep those for once a week. But a couple of lines with a short tip, a reminder, anything useful even questions that gets them thinking, will be appreciated.

As already mentioned above, all platforms aren't necessarily beneficial. :)

I'd say stick to e-mail and potentially launch another blog, but keep the comments moderated. That way you prevent any crap from showing up without you having previously approved it.

If you do use 'webuildpages dot com' ...$2500 monthly for 10 guaranteed links that might be a little too costly.. Arent there any cheaper ways of doing this? :croc:
