Tourist faces two years in jail after leaving negative TripAdvisor reviews

"Barnes was arrested and briefly detained in Koh Chang, but has now been released on bail."

Anything FAKE must result in that kind of FATE. Well done Trip Advisor.

Genuinity and honesty is STILL the best policy.

Wesley Barnes, an American who works in Thailand, allegedly wrote a number of damning reviews of Sea View Resort on the island of Koh Chang.

They wouldn't have done anything most probably if it was an honest review. :D

They also claimed to have contacted Barnes prior to taking legal action: “Despite out multiple efforts to contact him to resolve this in an amicable way for well over a month, he chose to ignore use completely. He only replied to emails, messages on reviews sites, etc. once he had been notified of our complaint by authorities.”

It's funny how he ignored them, not sure what he was trying to achieve.
Also, a news site having a typo makes me realize why the traffic on MSN has been declining.

I followed the news and what happened. I saw both of the statements (from the resort and from the tourist).

This guy brought his own bottle of alcohol to the hotel restaurant, which is pretty much a no-go in every hotel restaurant. Hotel wanted him to pay a "cork fee" of 500 baht, which is around $15 and this guy refused. Then the hotel management did let them drink the alcohol without fee.

Problem solved? No.

This tourist decided to leave several reviews, not only on TripAdvisor, but also on Google. It was not a typical review...but pure defamation. He used words like "avoid it like coronavirus" and "slavery" which got nothing to do with anything.

Now all the keyboard warriors are butthurt because there are actually consequences for writing bullshit on the internet. This guy clearly tried to hurt the reputation of the hotel. I am wondering why? For what? He didn't even need to pay the fucking fee. Like, the hotel staff was already tolerant. Also, who the fuck brings his own bottle of alcohol (not just a single beer, but a bottle of wine or gin) to the hotel restaurant? Who the heck does this?

What is the brand of alcohol?
Tell me now, or else I'll leave a negative review to the restaurant :D

Oh wow, I didn't know that can get that serious!

Is it only in Thailand? How about other countries?

I can see all BHW in jail for less :D

Long live internet freedom!

If I remember rightly there’s an outdated law against slandering businesses in Thailand. Don’t think this is the first time online reviews have been a legal issue.

The UK competition and markets authority has really been cracking down on fake reviews with positive and negative. Not sure about other regions. Heard things have quite bad in India too esp with smm.
