LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The six major Hollywood studios have won a $111 million
judgment for copyright infringement against the shut-down file-sharing Web
    site www.TorrentSpy.com

The judgment, filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, fined the
operators of the web site, Valence Media LLC, $30,000. per violation for
nearly 3,700 illegal movie and TV show downloads.

The Motion Picture Association of America said the judgment sends a strong
    message to copyright violators.

The site shut down in March, saying the legal climate was too hostile to
    continue.

Its lawyers filed a document in court Monday saying Valence had sought
bankruptcy protection in a United Kingdom court and requesting that the
    judgment be stayed.

Iron Man just cleared $200 million -- Hollyweird ain't hurtin for cash.
As for loss of return, there was an article that stated 9 out of 10 films
lose cash! And that's not due to piracy, it's due to bad writing! Ha! Ha!

I quit going to movies in the mid 1990s. For every good movie there are 20 bad ones.

I totally agree they are a bunch of greedy assholes. I download all my movies but that doesn't mean I don't go to the theaters. I forget what group it was but a few years back they use to add a little clip to their releases that basically said "I refuse to pay $7.50 to find out a movie sucks!"

Just think of it if piracy really cost the music and movie industries so much you wouldn't have ppl still paying for freakin mp3's. Basically 80-90% of internet users either aren't tech savvy enuff to figure these things out or they are way to spooked by the man to even try. That in my opinion is the sole reason for these outrageous lawsuits - containment!

The problem is we calculate numbers and forget the actual principals, that?s what we should discuss, no matter how much they make the case is actually on their side :p rarely courts look at the numbers BEFORE the principals of the situation. Torrent Spy got stung hard, good thing they filed for bankruptcy. I see Big Brother is digging for private information on the web now, we?re probably a year closer to getting chipped :p

Ha! How much of that cash is spent on party drugs and party girls. :D :D

Remember the movie, "The Blues Brothers"? There was talk that a lot of the film budget went for drugs. Considering that Belushi died soon after, I wouldn't doubt it.

This shit cracks me up ...I laugh at it.

I don't know how make these frivolous cases. That's like saying that people who download albums aren't the same F'n people that fuel concert ticket sales and sellout events. More retarded greedy assholes. That's corporate.

I can't wait until the Porn Association (is there one?...lol -kidding) starts suing people for downloading Whoriental Sex Academy #7...

    Imagine...

    Corporate Douche Bags

If you pay for your internet connection you are entitled to anything in digital format that is online.

I love when they try to make examples out of these sites. Anything that greedy governments can't regulate and profit from must be illegal....fukkers

Maybe one day you'll design something worth a damn, then I can steal it.

    I won't hold my breath.

I wonder how many people hear about things like this and
can then start downloading torrents when they had never
    heard of them previously?

If you create a product that can be shared online - it will be.

I would guess that some of the internet marketing gurus would
know about the holes in their systems - but if you have a guy
swipe your product that cost $2K and he becomes and affiliate
and sells $20,000 worth of product - what do you care?

Just a thought - it's all about business - and sometimes
people lose money spending so much time, effort, and energy
    worried about losing it.

Guess again. Far too many people think they're immune to prosecution because of their geographic location. Then they get a nasty wake-up call in the form of a letter from a corporate lawyer, their ISP, or their cable company.

Copyright laws are *INTERNATIONAL*, and if you share files then you'd better take all of the precautions that you can to protect yourself. The powers-that-be are putting more and more pressure on foreign governments to crack down of piracy. And some places are giving in, albeit grudgingly.
