I have a lot going on right, and because of it, bills, blackmail and family issues, you would think I would be super motivated. But my judgement is clouded and I can't focus with all the worry. If only I was a teenager living at home with parents with nothing to worry, but alas, I'm not.

So how can I cope with this and be the pit bull that I need to be in order to get the results i'm seeking?

How did you guys do it?

    Been there.

Focus on one thing, and one thing only. Get it working 100%. Get fit, jog often, keep healthy. And maintain focus on one thing only....

This year I quit smoking, I jog often(not every day), I drink less, and sleep well. Take care of your body and it'll take care of your mind for you.

Hey OP, maybe you can try try work to a plan? Sometimes having a plan of what needs to be done can add an element of "accountability" and could help you stay on track. Keep at it...there's always light at the end of the tunnel. :)

Also, dont corner yourself. Dont let yourself be alone. Go out and talk to people. You'll feel better.

This ^^^ and also to add that (although this might appear counter-intuitive)
walk away from the internet for a few days, read a book, watch TV,
occupy your mind with fresh, new, exciting ideas, challenge yourself with little things,
and once your head is cleared, come in and PLAN, make a to do list,
set goals, and by taking action effectively, before you know it, you will be half way there!!!
    STAY POSITIVE
    Good Luck

Been in this position as well and I continue to experience much of it on a daily basis.

This is what helps me cope with this kind of stress.

    - sleeping early
    - waking up early
    - eat healthy
    - exercising 3 times a week

I can vouch with the getting some exercise. The last couple months couldnt focus on IM, work, everything just pissed me off. Family, bills, life bla bla then i started going to the gym and cutting off all bad eating and wow what a difference it made. I am happier, look, feel better and lowered my stress level by a lot. I dont jog much but i lift so whatever floats your boat but get moving

Take a day to relax and clear your mind. Be ready for the next day and start with a schedule. I try to keep as focused and close to my schedule as possible. Stress will not have time when you put a lot of work on your plate. Once you start seeing results from your efforts, a lot of that stress will start to go away.

I was at your position about 4 years ago (without blackmail huh).. Just stay positive and train something where you can throw out all the bad energy you have now. And when you get that going, start to work really hard on some project with huge focus. Also all those things that two members here (bartosimpsonio and Goal Line Technology) were said, listen to that too and implement it! And there ya go, success :)

I am in the same situation as yours but after seeing how people have de-stressed themselves it feels great!

Over the years, I've found that learning to control your thoughts will help you stay motivated. It's either you allow your thoughts to ruin your day, or you find a way to keep your mind off your problems and focus on the important things.

This is what helps me (some of this has already been mentioned):
    1) stress - exercise, if u can get in the gym great!
if money is an issue, u can always walk/run do pushups, pullups, situps, squats etc. there are tons of things u can do w/out equipment

    2) too many things on ur mind? - try meditation. it doesn't have to be in a religious/spiritual way, but take 15-30 min to get away.
go to a park, or somewhere outdoors away from all the stuff that is filling your head and turn off ur cell phone etc.
try to focus on ur breathing and organize your thoughts into two categories: things u can control and things u cant
from there, u try to narrow it down to things that u can control and need to deal with in ur immediate future (like today).
make a list of these things and hold urself accountable at the end of each day
another thing that helps w/time management is i keep a daily log, just a simple spreadsheet printed out that i fill in on an hourly basis
so u know exactly where your time is going

    3) depression -
    a) talk to people, but more importantly, people who are in a similar situation or have been through the same thing, so they can relate and so they are talking with you and not at you.
    b) realize that no matter how bad ur situation is, there are always people who have it worse, think of kids caught up in the syrian conflict, poor people in third world countries eating dirt-cookies so their stomachs dont hurt etc.. (no offense to anyone if ur included in these groups :))

    4) motivation -
everyone is built a bit different, but one thing that helps is reading some of the success stories here
another thing to think about is the point in 3b) even of all the people who have had it worse, they have still found a way to be successful

ultimately, just take things 1 day at a time
being here is already a step in the right direction
now, just like anything in life, you have to continue to learn, progress, and grow
