What's the word for when too many pages in your website are competing for the same keyword and as a result your website doesn't rank? Like when a lot of pages in your website are too similar and targeting the same keyword? because I think right now that's what's happening with my website. I am trying to rank for
[keyword] [location] and I have a lot of locations

    [keyword] California
    [keyword] Texas
    [keyword] Los Angeles
    [keyword] Houston
    [keyword] Colorado

I think my site is not ranking because all these pages are competing for [keyword]

what's the name of this (I know there is a name, I just can't rermeber it) and what's the solution?

It's called content cannibalisation. And to avoid it, you are supposed to put similar keyword on similar pages. That however is not exactly doable in the example you shown.
