Harro, I agree, however, consider that we, the general public, made Simon Cowell and his brand of garbage, recycled, over produced music and entertainment. People lap up his shows like they are crack, and then after 6 months later, the winner is nowhere to be found. American Idol has been on for like 5 years, and only like 2 or 3 winners have an active music career. The rest all crashed and burned badly after the media left.

I attribute the rise of cowell and his bandits to the internet about 10 years ago when we found out we could download music and movies for free. That really diluted the talent pool out there and made a space for cowell to create prepackaged entertainment devoid of creativity.

Well hes not involved with RATM and buying the RATM track isnt doing what you are being told your doing it because you want to not have christmas number one the usual xfactor song which isnt original.
Its a you dont have to buy it but if you support what we are saying buy it. Besides i already own the album before anything was going on and all proceeds are going to charity and Rage are doing a free UK tour now.

And ofcourse hes not famous for being on idol. Its not a personal attack on his guru status on music its just a IM SICK OF CHRISTMAS NUMBER ONES THAT have no battle.

Everyone always used to enjoy the battle to number one and this has shook the system.
Whether people like the song or not its people shouting out that something needs to be done.
People usually didnt buy the Xfactor tracks because they liked the song they bought it to support the singers who won because they voted. Not because they love the tune entirely because none of them are original.

I personally would love for someone with originality in a song to be number one. Not some song that the contenders didnt even wish to sing in the first place.
The Xfactor christmas number one is picked by Simon Cowell and they get no say in the matter. Its always a cover, its not the winners song.

HE HAS NOT LOST MONEY he has still gained money because the record still sold. But a good thing came out of this and thats all christmas number one profits going to charity. A free UK tour for Rage fans. And over £60,000 in donations just to the facebook profile.

IF that doesnt show the world what a messed up UK Christmas chart is. Then what does.

And oxonbeef whether you can rage against either and download for free. The point is all Rage profits are going towards the homeless.

We might have made Xfactor what it is and made Simon Cowell 10x more famous by doing so i will admit i love watching it. But i personally hate the Christmas song that ends it.

And what better of song to have for Christmas number one than Rage against the machine - Killing in the name

    :D

And P.S Simon Cowell (Syco Label) is not affiliated with Rage (Epic) they are just sub companies under the Sony Corp.
Sony will earn for both but Simon Cowell does not earn from Rage Against the Machine.

No, but its only recently that he has come out from behind the scenes and basically told everyone he is going to make his brand of "sterile" music and shove it down out throats consistently.

All the 15 year olds out there don't know how bands used to get street cred. They worked, wrote and played their own music and toured shit clubs for years. I would like to see Susan Boyle or Adam Lambert playing biker clubs for a while.:p

Sorry. Misunderstood. Since Simon is in bed with sony and best buds, and then rage is also signed with sony. Sticking to the big wigs doesnt really work in this instance.

Not that it matters, i ended up buying both the single and the live track for xmas to show my support last week :).

Well take this to note guys the internet can change real life scenarios including UK Christmas number one by sensible marketing.
    So take notes :)

This goes further back to those manufactured "acts" which have always been around, think of the monkees(who weren't that bad) through to those personally hated by me as an 80s child who were put together by uk based stock aitcken and waterman, sinita, rick astley etc.
How many decent groups and singers didn't get through due to chart domination by these tossers? Would a band like U2 make it today?

I myself believe people should work for a music career. But there is also some good talent on these shows but usually the best talent always comes second or third in all contests.

They are the ones that usually end up more popular than the winners :D

With respect; this is spurious BS, cowell has FA to do with RATM. Buying the rage album wont make him any money.. in the same way buying a million peperoni pizzas from your local tesco wont make the store manager any richer. This was a desperate myth perpetuated by Cowell in the "news"papers.. these reports where likely funded by cowell anyway, yet everything he did seemed to embolden the motivation of the people who voted against him. Its been amazing and thoroughly empowering, and no rumour can ruin it. RATM fans are above press rumours.

But sony, who is making all the money off the xfactor winner, is also making all the money off RATM. Either way, its awesome that RATM are giving all their takings to the shelter.

The worst thing is, that some of these xfactor contests arent that bad. Its just that they are brainwashed into thinking without the show they would have never got anywhere. When in reality if they had worked hard at it like everybody else, they would have made a lifetime out of singing, instead of just the one xmas.

very true my good man, cowbell is just a good capitalist, exploiting people for money. I hate Leona but she is obviously talented... not my type of music at all but hey... no one can doubt that, it is a shame the talented people cowell exploits have to be associated with him. IMO he is a vulgar exploiter of people for capital gain, Joe would have been number 1 any year but this. Its not targeted at Joe on a personal level tho. Hes just a young man trying to earn a living; i respect that. But Cowell is a piece of shit and i bask in his disappointment. :D

I think its great to show people how powerful the internet really can be, and that its really not all that difficult to take down a monopoly.

I know people who bought the ratm single, even tho they dont like ratm.

It was done out of protest against (badly) manufactured music.

Cant blame Cowell for doing what he did, it's his business, and he's in it to make money. Just good to stick it to the man once in a while and show that he isnt all that unstoppable.

Doubt this kinda stunt will work again, more of a one off, i can almost guarantee next year thousands of people will start facebook groups trying to get their favourite song to the top of the charts.

Was this facebook campaign done with money / advertising or some groups and such?
And by groups and such I mean all free things you can do on facebook, since I don't use it I don't know how it works.
