I'm completely new to seo and i am trying to use long tail keywords. My question is if i have the keyword "how to make money online" can i rank for the keyword without putting How to make money online in the body text. For example if my blog title was "How to make Money Online" and i had a sentence in the text that said "affiliate marketing is a great way to make money online." would the term "make money online" help the seo or not because its not the full keyword. if you can answer thanks

Yes, aiming at partial keywords as "make money online" and other LSI related keywords as "how to make money in internet" is the right strategy at nowadays OnPage SEO. But remember, be careful with KW density.

If you are trying to rank for 'how to make money online' you should target the full phrase for entire on page SEO. That includes using the full kw phrase in title, h1 tags, body text, anchor text, alt tags. But it doesnt mean that your keyword need to be in exact order. So you can write ' how to make some easy money online' and still target the keyword 'how to make money online'. But it's essential that you use all the words present in your initial kw. According to your example you are targeting 'make money online' as the target kw as these words are common in both body text and title. Hope that clears things a little.
