I'm looking at setting up a small site with plenty of updated content, so I automatically though - autoblog :)

However I haven't used anything since WPRobot a couple of years ago and have no idea what plugins are the best and how Google ranks the posts...do they get slapped or are they still ranked ok?

All help will be very much appreciated :)

Autoblogging is fine, as long as the content is original and unique. The old idea of autoblogging with spun content only is pretty much dead.

How does autoblogging with unique content work?

Either way autoblogging where you're just scraping content from elsewhere? Forget about it, died a long time ago.

Well in my opinion ans some experience (of my friend) you can make money from auto blog. My friend generate latest $100 per day with. But what you should understand with auto blog is that it will die (deindexed) sooner or latter. But the point is scraping as much money as possible while is still alive and after that build a new one. That is what my friend is doing.
One of my friend website which is auto blog made $300 per month for 6 month than it got deindexed and he has already couple of other auto blog ruining.

You can auto blog. There is a new tool called Word AI which produces pretty good content and it is integrated with WP Robot. You can give that a try.

Thanks all, that's pretty much as I expected.

So here's another question, how do you think a blog would fare with say 50% new content and 50% scraped (RSS etc...)?

I'll look into word AI, can't say I've heard of it at this point but I've been away for a LONG time lol, thanks.

Classic text blogs (not just autoblogs but even handwritten ones) don't work anymore because Google doesn't like them. Everybody moving on new self-populating site model.

P.S. Now it doesn't matter if your content is unique or not.

@CyberSEO: Care to elaborate a bit?

Self-populating site? What does it mean? Is there any example? You mean like a hub site, pulling content from multiple places?

Ok, now I understand what you mean.

It's just autoblog with a twist. Even your self-populating Amazon site is just auto-pulling content using Amazon Product Advertising API and/or direct scraping.

You can do the same with WP Robot.

I've been using several paid plugins plus custom codes to accomplish the same thing.

What would be the suggested plugins/tools to get this underway and started?

That depends on what you're trying to accomplish.

WP-Robot is a very good tool which can source content from many places. You can even spin the content, interfacing with many services' API, to make your content unique.

If you have specific monetization in mind, like review sites, Amazon products, etc... there are also other more advanced and specific tools (usually with more features).

If you already have a bunch of unique content to start with, a simple mass import and schedule plugin is more than enough.

So yeah, it helps to be more specific about you're trying to do.

To be honest I'm just toying with it at the moment as a kind of satellite site for my main business site which is in the offline marketing arena.

The idea was to start it up to try and turn it into a mini-authority site with reviews on services and of course product sales where appropriate, but mainly for extra information for viewers, like the top 5 tips on blah blah etc...

I will have at least 10 fresh articles a month that I will write myself and there will be another 10 from a service provider on here, so I'm guessing 20 will be a good start but I know there will be industry specific content which will need to be on here too, like if you were aggregating the news.

You can write your own stories but you know there will be important stuff that needs to be there :)

@CyberSEO, thanks for the input, however when you don't know what you're looking for a search is pretty useless, you get lots of conflicting information, and people selling useless stuff in with the good stuff. That's why I'm asking on here, I trust BHW, I've been on here a long time and always had good information and help.

I appreciate there are loads of people that want a done-for-you answer, but that's not me. I just need to know what sort of plugin or software I'm looking for first to achieve my goals, then a search is the order of the day.

    Thanks though

Appreciate your insight into this, CyberSEO. So, then what's the difference between what something like wprobot does with videos versus typical rss feeds for videos? Or are they the same? In other words, what makes the autoblogging activities bad (where a template is used), whereas pulling rss feeds with the same content is okay? Thanks.

It's best to just focus your attention on a few sites that are targeting long tail keywords and provide quality content my friend. Google has caught up to the whole autoblogging thing and are moving to eradicate these from the searches all together. Just my two cents.

That's pretty much what I was anticipating myself, I'm a member of a few forums and it's all pointing the same way :)

I guess I'll just have to re-write the important content then :) to avoid and future changes.
