Have any of you ever tried just going on random websites, seeing if the design is bad or not, and if it is (poorly coded in HTML back in 2001) you email the people and ask them if they want a redesign of the site for a certain price? any luck?

Yes... I have done this with folks with poorly designed sites. Some will accept your offer but some other will try to get you by saying its spamming and its against the law to contact them about services when their TOS have nothing about the subject. Just watch out before asking them to consider your services. You may just get the guy that will send you 2-4 emails a day about it being spam.

It works when you contact local websites that have a shitty website, just walk around your city take down some store names (or open a phone book) and google them.. if nothing shows up you make a list of that and if a shitty website shows up you make a list of that. SO with the no website list you look for the address of the place and send them a letter/call them to ask them if they are in need of a website but if they have a shitty website you call them/mail them to tell them about their website that with an updated look it should attract more people. It never hurts to try.. but i would stick to local companies and not random sites you come across
