Hi Friends,

I have been working with a big firm which is good, but they ask so many things to do and even though I was star performer within 3 months of joining, they gave very small increment. When I raised this issue they said we are the paymasters of this industry and that we have given increments after checking the industry standards.

They even said that HR will get in touch with me to discuss if I feel the increment is low, and I waited but still no one has contacted me.

Topping on this was that they had assigned me a training which I had to pay and then complete. But I have purchased a home and I am struggling to make both ends meet so I cannot undergo a paid training, which they can pay lateron if I cleared it.

Last week they mailed every leadership member and told them that I haven't completed my training.

I feel so bad because is my Director having so much free time that he will micro manage my trainings? Even though I am completing all the tasks and I am working hard, still keeping Directors in CC. Does it make s sense?
I feel betrayed by the company because they don't want to give increments and have started using evil means of getting rid of me.

I am working on projects that may have potential but still those are in nascent stages and I may take more time.

I am thinking to apologize and tell them that I have financial and personal issues because of which I am not able to complete my trainings. But still I feel as if I am part of a rat race that seems never ending.

There are some internal video trainings also which I am not able to clear. Those are not technical but those are more like managerial types. For example how to coach someone and how to grow an inclusive environment.

I have tried since a month now, but I am not able to clear them. Those are too much subjective because we don't have options but we have to play videos and give answers based on situations, which change everytime.

I am not able to understand now if I am wrong or this world has become too much competitive for me to live ... :(

Its also complicated. I joined for HR Analytics, but now I am working on all sorts of projects ranging from website development to web app development on Google AppScripts. Then also I have to work on projects from VBA development and making presentations for managers.

I am a blogger also, but still working since 3 years to make revenue out of adsense.

Not able to generate enough traffic.

Having said that, still I am trying to learn new technologies as per client requirements and working and delivering the work. Some managers are good to me. But still this firm is so diverse that they don't have a communication between HR Team and then Training and Development Team.

Bigger the firm is, lower the digits in your increment %. Unless you joined some hot startup or FAANG

and FAANGs are notorious for laying off employees ... :(

Yes with great salaries come great layoff risks too.
and HRs talk about employee loyalty ... Check gaps in experiences ... its irony of corporate world ...

The corporate culture is like this, if we give 100%effort, still they ask more.

and if after giving 100% we die ... still we will be replaced before we are buried ...

Lol! We yearn and apply alot for it, when we out of school/training and we don't seems to get this jobs, perhaps when we get employed and used up, we tend to get too stretched and cry up again.oops! Lord have mercy

Yes thats true ... To survive everyone needs money ... and when we get a source, we have to work hard, but still there are things that we miss ... Our freedom ... work life balance and over above ... our peace of mind ...

Maybe I am wrong ... cus everyone deals with this ... but I wanted to share it once because it was too much for me ...

Yes I think it's part of what we tend to give in exchange for what we seems to need

Hence your effort % should be based on how much it is appreciated, in terms of money/perks. In other words, do not be a corpsimp.

it's give and take, you got fixed salary each month. than for 8h/day you do any work they assign. if you achieve small bonus.
you can always quit and be self employee, or make your own business . in this case you are free to put more effort and it can give you more or none depending on situation.at the same no fixed salary, ca be bigger, smaller or even 0. so pick your choice.
my suggestion why waste so much mental capacity on the company you working on? as long they do it on line with the contract you agree.
you should spend t hose resource on yourself, is this kind of life, you want to enjoy? what is your shor term goal? your long term goal?.
than plan how you will achieve it

working for big org on a fixed wage rarely does it pay to be the shining star. that stuff only works for commission/sales based jobs where your pay is directly correlated to your performance. you're just inviting yourself to be given extra duties for the same wage.
remember in school you were given group projects. 1 person did all the work while the other 5 slacked off. working for someone else is a lot like that. many coworkers slack and the shining stars do the majority of the work. end of the day they all make the same wage. (plus or minus 1-2 dollars buy what's that amount extrapolated for 1 year?). im sure youre a very intelligent person like most people here. tune-in how far "above and beyond" you really want to go.

does your director have too much free time to micro manage you? my employer does training for other employers. its all done through 3rd party we resell. we get a report once a month showing which employees completed training and who didn't. those who did not complete training get output to a file and forwarded to their manager. their manager then sorts it out with the employee. whole thing takes a few minutes from the admin side of things.

working for someone else (non-commission) will always be a rat race. do not apologize for anything.

there's a popular saying. work for yourself or youre gonna be working on someone else's dream.

Follow up with HR, you may feel like you are annoying but as someone who worked in HR
jfc, we are busy 24/7 even if we dont seem like it & they may be a time mgt issue gap there too.
Best to followup with them.

That's very normal, companies, especially bigger ones are very anal about any type of "company provided training", especially compliance ones.
Although, Paid Training is a totally different thing, what training exactly are they making you do?
Is it to advance your knowledge in your area of specialty, or what?
Cuz, that itself seems fishy to force you to pay for a training that isn't necessary needed.

Honestly, unless you are in their position for a few weeks to experience the things they actually do, I personally wouldn't judge what they do from seeing them in the open.
Not saying your director is not doing nothing but, as far as my experiences goes with directors, VPs and above, they may seem not-busy all the time, their schedules are actually indeed very busy.
I feel betrayed by the company because they don't want to give increments and have started using evil means of getting rid of me.
There is a word for this, and it's called entitlement.
Sorry you may feel this way but, unless you are filthy rich, just because you feel like you deserve it, doesn't necessary mean you will get it.
I am working on projects that may have potential but still those are in nascent stages and I may take more time.
Do remember, company needs to see the project in an overall situation.
They can't blindly invest on something they have no guarantee of success, that's a total path down to bankruptcy for any company.
There are billions of ideas in the world, but it doesn't mean every one of them will work, or the successful ones have the right leadership to led it to work either.

Sounds like these are more compliance trainings each company provides, although idk why they are making you pay for it.
But if you are struggling on managerial type of training, in the eyes of HR, that itself is also a valid reason to withhold your promotion.
The higher up you are in the ladder chain, the more responsibility you have, you will have your own "org" below you, a team under you.
If you are struggling to understand how management leadership styles work, how can they put you in that position?
Sorry but, corporate life isn't, i'm great at doing xyz, please promote me. Everything gets taken into consideration if we take out all forms of nepotism and favoritism.

At the end, this is just purely from reading what you mentioned in this thread.
I still have no idea what your job is, nor the trainings they are having you undergo.
