I have been buying a new laptop every year, they always get so hot after a few months of use. I work on IM so I keep my laptop on almost 15 hours a day. I was thinking about getting a Macbook or some HP Envy. My budget was always $350-$450, I'm looking for something around $800 and it must last 3 years atleast.

Current laptop: HP Pavilion g series

    Any suggestion?

    About the laptop:
Probably it is better to invest a decent amount of money once instead of just 350-450$ every year.
I think a more expensive laptop $800 + will earn itself back on the long term.

Also, if your laptop tends to get to hot I suggest you get two of these:
    dx.c*m/p/usb-powered-2-fan-2100-rpm-cooling-pad-for-12-17-laptop-32005 (can't post links)

You should get 2 of them, (4 fans total) otherwise your laptop will be tilted too much. They
have flaps that can fold in or out for extra laptop support. (you place your laptop on these fans)
    Works great for me!

It doesn't get hot because I don't have a cooling pad, it's because the laptop wasn't design for daily use, is mainly for "casual users". I was thinking about long term also, I want to buy a good computer this time.

Most of the HP's are crap, so stop buying them!
Second Just Open your laptop and clean the dust from it and do a fresh instal of windows- should be like new!
Third, Buy a year old used model for which the price have dropped 3X and for the same price/less you can get much better laptop with much better build quality!

Use your laptop to remote access into a real computer and it won't matter what you have.

I only turn mine off for like 20 minutes once a week at the best. On year 3 of having it and use it heavily and it gets hot and loud sometimes but its OK. If they are really dying like that buy a cooling pad bro they're way cheaper than buying laptops.

Get a MacBook Air. Solid state drive and doesn't get hot at all. It doesn't even make any sounds while its on. I've never even heard the fan.

I usually just RDP to my SEO Server with all my tools.

It is expensive but totally worth it. It's slightly less than 3 lbs.

Oh yeah and super long battery life as well!

And you wonder why they overheat?

I've had the same laptop (HP Pavilion) since 2008 and it's still working great, though I'm using a more powerful one now (Acer), this one is also from 2008.

Not looking to change any time soon. :D

I'm assuming you're leaving it running for such a long time because you're using link-building software? If that's the case, seriously invest in a VPS...

Either that or get a decent desktop - much cheaper than laptops and tend to have better cooling.

I had my original macbook (base model) for five years straight. I recently upgraded to a MacBook Pro i7 8GB RAM and it's heaven. I put it on a stand with a BT keyboard and comfortable mouse, it acts as a desktop. You could even use a separate monitor too.

I am by no means an "Apple Fan Boy", but Macs rock. While you could get a more powerful Windows computer for the same price, Macs have higher resale value and last much longer.

You need to up your budget if you want a laptop that will still be "current" 3 years from now. You also need a laptop that is designed for extended use under heavy loads.

You basically need a gaming laptop even though you're paying a little more for the graphic card even though you may not need it.

    I have the Asus G75V

Google it, things a beast. I run ALL my I'm software on it and it never breaks higher than 25% CPU usage.

If I have things running at insane thread counts I.e GSA SER then I've been able to max the CPU out but that was at roughly 300 threads and with other programs running in the background.
