Hopefully this is the place to ask.

Kinda new to this stuff but I'm thinking of opening a website that will offer warez content (basically web design stuff) but I'm not sure how to go about doing that as a US citizen given the major risks involved. I don't want to be the next Kim Dotcom. How can I cover my ass, so to speak? Am I better off having the guy from my team who lives overseas host it?

To my knowledge, buying a TLD would draw unwanted attention from authorities. I'd need to seek a quality warez-friendly host located outside the US as well. WhoIS privacy isn't going to protect me for very long, I don't imagine.

    Thank you.

stay away from it. It's not worth it. One leak here or there and you can get 10-15 years. There is no need to make millions which you can't spend. Make few thousands and be happy with it. Tell yourself it's not worth it and work on some other business model.

To be honest, I was never in it for the money. I won't bore you with the details but I'm just interested in maintaining a site that would allow access to the content given how many other similar sites are closing; helping the little guy, essentially. We all have to start somewhere and shit products like SMF, phpBB, Vanilla, bbPress, etc aren't worth it. I've helped manage one of the largest such sites for 6-7 years without issue. This would be my first attempt at handling the backend aspects (hosting/domain).
