Recently, one of my sites lost its position as #1 for a very important keyword. Upon analyzing the potential reasoning and examing all of the results in the top 10, I came across something very important.

Every site that was ahead of mine loaded faster then mine, and every site that was behind it loaded slower.

I always new load time was important, but I never realized just how important it was. LOAD TIME AFFECTS RANKING

This may not work for everyone. I have only tested it for one site, but if you have been trying tons of new things after penguin and they aren't working, try this!

Here is a good site to test the load times of your site and others:

    Code:

Nice share. I am sure it carries some ranking weight for sure that a lot of people don't think of.

But I am not going to adjust my load time to make google happy and sacrafice my on-site experience. I am done making changes for G. I build my sites for my visitors, not Google.

People are perfectly happy waiting 2 seconds for my page to load.

Load time contributes to the quality of the user experience. Also, there are plenty of things you can do that speed up load time without sacrificing site quality.

If your load time is already 2 seconds, then you are probably pretty good. My sites load time was worse then that.

Yep, site load time does affect its rankings because dumb search engines want the page to load as soon as folks click on it (even if they are on dialup) :duh:

This is one of the criteria's but I dont think it is one of the major ones. If you are in a competitive niche then it might work for you. But for micro Niche it will be fine I guess.

I was testing it on a 50k exact search keyword with medium competition. My conclusions lead me to believe that this is very important, however, only time will truly tell.

I know this factor is important. Been moving my VPS closer to geographical location for a long time.

But I'm always curious. Is it the time measured by Google bot when fetching our pages, or the time users load a page? What did they measure?

It doesn't... at least not a significant amount.
Tested this across platforms, and some sites with horrible load times. If it carries weight, it's worth less than a single high PR link.

A slow site load time will cause your bounce rate to increase (because people will leave the site after x seconds) which is another factor that Google is closely monitoring.

WHAT IF you make your site initial load REAL FAST, and then do everything from there on in AJAX?

OMG I did not know this might be so important. Just tested it and it looks like all competitors above me has load time 2-3 seconds, while mine is 10! I use wordpress and various hostings, I'm doing something really wrong.

DAFUQ? 10 friggin seconds to load your site. I wouldn't even wait 10 seconds for a site to load.

If load time is no SEO-factor, but affects the Bounce-rate, which is an SEO-factor, then avoiding Google Analytics would solve the problem, wouldn't it?

also noticed every site before mine is aligned in a certain way with the Moon and every one behind me is not as aligned with the Moon. Also, the sites before mine are more blue while those behind me are more. Stay away from red templates!

No, per my check, it does not indicator the faster the higher rank. Mine is much faster than those higher rank ones, while still at the bottom

Page Speed is a great firefox plugin to see how you can speed up load time. A simple way to really boost performance is to change your nameservers to cloudflare and use their stuff - it's free as well.

Two of my sites are sitting 1st & 2nd for a very competitive keywords. Because they're hosted on iPage, they are hell slow to load. And I mean it - up to 20 seconds sometimes.

Either my SEO beat the crap out of speed factor, or Google cares less about the speed and more about other factors.
