A small tip, We all know that this way of internal linking works so good.

"Best Smartphones" -Main article-
"Samsung S9 Review" - Individual review -
"iPhone 8 Review" - Individual review -
Etc.. as much as you can

And then you create internal links from the individual reviews to the main article.

Here's what most newbies like me do wrong in this technique.

I created like 10 individual reviews and the anchors was exact match or Partial match or Long Tail keywords.

Results: Main article tanked.

I fixed the anchors, just a little bit more aggressive than external linkings ratio.

Naked URL, Less exact Match, Misc.. etc..

Four days later I restored my rankings well.

That's it. I know it seems obvious but Newbies like me make those mistakes.

I thought I read a piece from Matt C. Saying internal link anchor text didn't matter. That was a few years back though so they must of changed.

This seem misleading to me

Your main article would tank for the keyword "samsung s9 review" if you linked to a different article using that keyword

By main article do you mean home page?
