Basically, Ive noticed this with a couple of my sites now. What I like to do is limit posts to one category each, but spread the tags out so that a couple undear each tag page. Well, I use long tail keywords in the title so I manage to come out somewhere in the first 5 pages as soon as google indexes each post, but when google starts to index the tag pages eg (tag/this/ and tag/that/) posts that appear in both tags will be exact copies of each other and google WILL punish you for duplicate content with the same content. You need to download teh All in One SEO pack for wordpress and choose "noindex tags". I like to keep my categories and archives indexed. I think this should work better. Let me know your results, it would be interesting to know how big teh effect is for removing multiple content.

wait want to explain that a little better? posts that appear in both tags will be the exact same copies of each other? I think not... If you have unique articles being posted and duplicate content being erased then...

you shouldn't have a problem with duplicate posts coming up in different categories

    I mean if I have a post

    "hello world"

and I put the tags as "hello" and "world"

    then the pages
    myblog/tags/hello/

    and

    myblog/tags/world/

    will have the same article

WP has that problem with dublicate content because of the tags another solution is to use a robots.exe and use 'noindex' for all the tags pages and yes googles loves wordpress:D

i will try this to see if it works...

normally i would guess that the more pages the better - and to send more PR to the important pages and google picks the rest...

but it is worth a try, thanks

It depends on your permalink structure. If you havnt changed it from the default. It would be yoursite.com/?tag=mytag.

ah ok how about /%postname%/, i'm working on some stuff right now so i can't really experiment. Not sure since it already has "tags" within it but not specific ones generated by the content scrapers

The way to check is just go to google and type in site:yoursite.com and you will be able to see all the links google has indexed.

Ok I suggest nobody follow my advice. I WAS COMPLETELY WRONG. I removed tag pages and went from being 40 on one result to being 300. For another keyword I was in 3rd position now Im not in the first 1000. I really dont know what to do now, google is so confusing.

How many links were you building? If you built to many than it has nothing to do with your tags it just means you were sandboxed for building links to fast and it looks unnatural to google. :(
