Just started working with my first offline client, they have a static website and a yellow pages listing with Time Warner.
In the process of getting the domain name from Time Warner so I could build a better site for them, they offered SEO services. So I'm still getting info on this (I have a sideshow that they sent) but the price is $1,500 a month and GUARANTEED first page rankings in the first 3 months.

    Thoughts?

Google Adwords = 1st page ranking in 1 day.
8 Word Keyphrase = 1st page ranking as soon as Google updates.

All these companies seem to be jumping on the bandwagon and are usually offering crap services. How competitive of a keyword can you use? What happens if you drop off or stop paying?

It's amazing that people trust companies like Time Warner or other big name companies and overpay them for crap services based on name recognition.

Well it's a local search term, under 500 searches per month. So $1500 is just stupid, have the feeling that lots of red tape for this exist though. It was really funny when I realized what they were trying to sell me.

I would really love to see the presentation they sent you. I bet that it aims to take advantage of small webmasters that don't know jack about SEO while they try to rank for easy KW. Of course Time Warner may well put 1500 a month into perspective comparing it with projections of PPC budgets such as $3000 a month or so...

Oh yeah, I've lost a client to their "Services". Had a local insurance company on the hook for $1k/month for some statewide insurance terms. The owner decided to go with the more "trusted" company. It's been awhile, and I have been keeping track of the KW's. So far, none in the top 500. Maybe they bit off a bit more than they could chew.

This shit just pisses me off how they get away with raping customers. The services I've seen from other companies like this are a joke.

One big company that shall go unnamed was offering a $750 package for on page SEO, submission to search engines, and submission to 100 directories. The on page SEO amounted to a title and description with the keyword in it.

I'm interested in this. Please post links. I'm also skeptical about Time-Warner's mad SEO skilz. Also, how does Time-Warner have a "Yellow Pages" listing. Yellow Pages is AT&T. Time-Warner, to my knowledge, doesn't have a listing service, so I'd appreciate some clarity on that one.

Yellow Pages promised my client SEO for an extra $300 a month. The listed him on yp.com. That was it. No other backlinks, anywhere. Not even a Google Places listing, ROFLMAO.
