Interesting insight about how Google views those short "Great post!" comments. It appears that while they aren't dead universally against them, they certainly view them more harshly. Knowing Google I wouldn't be shocked if they had a minor handicap against such low quality short comments with short content. So if you're in the comment game, now might be the time to put a little more thought into content and length.

I'm sure that's mostly true, but I have been seeing some competitive niches getting dominated by generic short blog comments for longer than I thought. I'm not surprised they're working but for how long they're staying up top, especially with aggressive exact anchor text. But I agree, well thought out comments go a lot longer I'm sure.

I noticed this as well and thought it was a fluke, I thought maybe I didn't have a big enough sample size to conclude these blog comments are actually doing something.
