You know he did not. There were a few other things the guy could have done that would have been effective, such as start a free web page on Blogspot or WordPress, this would have incurred a legal liability though and a knowledge of SEO.

This is the problem with the entitlement generation. They feel that they are entitled to do anything without consequence for their actions, and do not care about who else may be harmed.

I have no respect for the guy. He admits that he did not post on ROR to correct a situation, but rather as a form of revenge. This suggests that he had no basis for his complaint, and that he knew it; if he had some basis for an improper firing, then he would have had a legal avenue of recourse. In turn, this suggests that his firing was justified, and also suggests that he felt entitled to a job which he could not perform. In other words: he was fired for cause.

These issues, in turn, show the problems with ROR and other like sites - lack of verification and lack of culpability/liability for knowing libel.

Excuse my language, but this really funny as fuck. So you are ok with the other billions of sites that pollute the internet and spread false information, even with sites for hacking, pedophiles sites, but you really care about one in particular? Bravo!

I get what jazzc is saying. Who cares if this guy got busted for drugs. You've never done them? Don't bring personal facts in a business argument. And as for free speech, he's right so what if the site blackmails. If the company has nothing to hide then who gives a shit.

In addition to the drugs, there was a check fraud scheme in Florida, a flower shop sales fraud scheme in New York, and an auto sales fraud scheme in California. This was before Magedson struck the idea of RipOff Reports.

What was this about personal arguments in a business, we have three business arguments above. Then we have the personal as well where the guy defrauded the gay community in New York.

You are right, but if you read some of my other posts opinions are ok, but lies to pass of as fact are not.

As I mentioned we had a complaint and it was a lot like your example, someone said they bought something, they said it did a certain thing and not only was it a lie but we did not carry the product in the configuration described. It is clear on our rebuttal, it is clear on our site. What else is clear is this was just a competitor complaining, at the time we were #1 and #2 for our keywords, before a neg SEO attack, probably conducted by the same competitor.

Now as far as how rip off report is involved, well they allow obviously false information to appear as fact, I would suggest they encourage it so they can charge to have the info removed or altered.

I am not 100% sure about the facts of the Yelp case but I think a judge ruled in a business owners favor regarding exposing the "person" making a complaint about his business. The case revolved around a case of a bad review and that the owner knew to be false. If I am correct Yelp had to reveal details for the account that posted the complaint.

I do not know what happens from there, does Yelp have to remove it if it is proven false? If proven false will consumers believe reviews on Yelp? How will that affect Yelp's business?

Anyway, as I mentioned it does not seem to have hurt us anyway but if it did then we would have cause for concern. It is clear that the complaint against us was fake, we countered the claim and made the initial complainer look foolish.

I believe that in the particular Yelp case you are speaking of the judge found each party to be guilty of mutual libel. The woman that complained about shoddy construction libeled the owner of the construction company and the owner of the construction company libeled the woman. Because of the mutual contributory libel, the judge threw the matter out.

However the matter I mentioned about Yelp and the FTC advisory is only a few days old. Also, the FTC letter and an article about Yelp stock prices falling after the FTC letter.

If a judge finds a matter to be libel and orders the firm, such as ROR, Yelp, Pissed Consumer, etc. to take it down and the agency does not, then the agency is liable for damages because they would lose their safe have under 230C of the CDA.

While Magedson claims to encourage only truthful content, I believe he encourages any content truthful or not.

This won't make you money unless one of your sites have been on his site and your pissed. This site is a piece of shit and no one uses it.

Why would anyone spend money to get it taken down?

You want my dog in the fight, OK. I will be more than happy to give it.

I am one of the individuals that was involved in Google demoting mugshots. I also operate a site that is devoted to mugshot take downs. When the mugshot industry, Mugshots.com (Marc Gary Epstein) and Kelly Joe Ellis of FloridaSeminoleMugshots (Who lives in Joplin Mo.) plastered me all over every consumer complaint site there is an took on an SEO campaign to promote that libel. In fact it was this series of incidents that were the foundation of my learning about SEO, both black and white hat, and were also the reason that I investigated the owner and operators of the complaint sites in addition to the owners/operators of the mugshot sites.

I am not the first that has been libeled behind anti mugshot advocacy, but I do not give up easily. I could name ten others that the libel tactic cause the operators to give up.

Over the course of time, I have acquired numerous CD's of material from FOIA requests on these sites. I have also telephoned and spoken with the owners of many of the sites. Personally I do not give a damn if my information is one a mugshot site, or a consumer complaint site. Even so, I have lost two physical businesses due to the consumer complaint over my criminal record. Yes, I have been in prison six times for crimes ranging from Obstruction of an Official Legal Process (Kansas) to Computer Crimes (Utah) to Murder (California). So what? Those activities are what they are. Using those activities to springboard into obscure claims such as "Our investigation will reveal much more," or "Now he is committing internet crimes" crosses the line. These claims were used to attempt to discredit fully supported and documented information on a site that I run as well as any business I may run.

Then we have the fact that my personal information was doxed by the sites mentioned and that since that time I have been the victim of Identity Theft six times. Hell, Wednesday I filed a motion for summary judgment in a case involving identity theft and will follow that up with a Notice of Exempt Income as a backup position some time today. Funny thing about that lawsuit, when I investigated, I found that the junk debt buyer, Asset Liability LLC, prior to its purchase by Encore Group, was tied with the mugshot sites through their Florida office. So while not provable, I know where the lawsuit came from - in fact, this is the third time that I have dealt with the same matter. Generally the attorneys involved drop the debt case when they find out that it was a matter of provable identity theft. In this instance, they found another scumbag attorney by the name of Gregory M. Constantino who commonly goes by the name of Gregory Constantino in Salt lake City, Utah to handle the matter. In the investigation of Gregory Constantino and the Constantino Law Firm, I found that Gregory M. Constantino has been twice been fined by the courts for ethics violations and one in the federal courts for violations of the FCDRA. I also found that Constantino has ties to Asset Liability, and in his last motion, though I do not think he knows it yet, actually made an admission that he is the Plaintiff and is only using Asset Acceptance as a cover.

    That is my dog.

Being victimized by such sites does not mean that I lay down. I am proactive and flexible, and entirely responsible for my own actions. However, others are not as proactive and suffer even greater harm than I have behind sites like ROR, etc. Robin in the Aids issue above is one of them. Many business doors have been shuttered behind fraudulent and unsupported complaints.

I am all for free speech ans long as it is truthful. What sites like ROR, and the mugshot sites, and the other negative content sites like Yelp do is akin to yelling fire in a crowded theater. Those sites hide behind section 230C of the CDA, hidden registrations, and in many cases off shore (US) hosting to evade legal consequences.

Can't say that I do. I think that you may after you falsely feel that you successfully put someone down.

The next time you ask why someone stands where, just remember that you might get an answer that you do not like, and that answer shows just how shallow you are.
