Nearly everything I see on page 1 now is either amazon, youtube, yahoo, or some other high PR. Plus, you don't have to worry about all of the hassle that goes into a new domain.

Just optimize your page and blast it. I'm sure pages will go down but it seems like a lot less work than actually starting new domains and spending weeks and weeks adhering to G's demands.

Also, I'm not saying this is the way to go. I'm wondering if anyone else thinks this is a better strategy than trying to buy new niche domains.

Of course, but I'm sure people who built up networks of over 100 EMD's over the last several years thought they were building something for life, as well. My point is that with organic traffic and G's constant tinkering, I'm not even sure what to do anymore when it comes to new niches.

Most of the properties ranking well are owned by members of Google's super-monopoly (Internet Association). Since small businesses are not allowed to join their cartel, you may want to focus on ranking sites built on properties that are controlled by these individual monopolies (Blogspot, YouTube, etc.).

It's pretty obvious that Google has been on a crusade to kill small businesses off that don't hop onto the Adwords ship. Adapt and overcome. You can either use the cartel properties to your benefit or build sites that can stand on their own two legs without a dependence on search.

Exactly, that's what I'm thinking. Why the hell should I spend the money, time, patience, and effort to put up a quality site when I could create an optimized entry on one of their sites and get it ranked with about 10% of the effort. Of course, this is only for my own niche work, not clients' sites or anything.
