A lot has been written on the Google Panda update ever since it came into inception. All the so called experts and gurus have been sharing their thoughts on this update! Some seem to be relevant, accurate, while others are complete BS!

Seeing this mess around, I have decided to start a short series of X (not sure) posts, where I'll be posting the obvious and the not-so-obvious things about the Panda update. I'm still not sure when I'll be posting them, so you might want to check at least once a week my new threads.

Please note that the information that I'll be sharing will be based on my experience, and on other data provided/shared by some other credible sources.
    So, without any further ado...

Panda Fact #1 - Patience Matters Even More

The Panda algorithm is so complex that it only evaluates websites in cycles of about 30 days. So, if you make a change today and Google just evaluated your site yesterday, it?ll be about 30 days before you see the full impact of that change in your rankings. (You never know when the evaluation had happened).

    "So what?", you say.

    Here's why...

Let?s assume your site was evaluated yesterday and that it sank from the fifth page of the search engine rankings to the seventh page?so you start building blog comments. A week goes by, and you see no change, so you stop the blog commenting, add a few articles to your site and wait for another week?. still no change.

Next, you start doing forum profiles. You give that a week and you see no change this time as well. Now you start getting worried and panic.

Finally, you go to Digg, Twitter and a bunch of other social bookmarking sites and start blasting your site with bookmarking links.

At the end of that week, you see your site jump from page seven to page two.

    Woohoo!!!

Social bookmarking is the magic "Panda Proof" banklinking solution!

You go to your blog and to BHW, and tell everyone that you?ve discovered the little known, super-duper, closely guarded secret to dominating the search engine rankings in spite of the Google panda update! (Good opportunity to start a WSO, eh? ;))

But did you really discover the secret?

Remember, Google had evaluated your site once before you did all your blog commenting, your content addition, your forum profiles and your bookmarking. For all you know, any one of those things could have been responsible for your site jumping to page three. But you still don't know what really worked well.

Maybe, one of the methods might have even HURT your rankings, but the other methods made up for it?. how do you know which method had what impact?

The least effective could have been your social bookmarking, yet here you are believing it?s the "Power Packed, Panda Proof Magic Solution!" Maybe the forum profiles could have helped your rankings that were hurt by the blog comments. So the first thing to remember about the Google Panda update is that your site is being completely evaluated every 30 days or so. If you do the same thing for 30 days straight and it works, you?ve found a good method. If not, it?s back to the basics?. test, tweak test.

Wait 30 days, see the impact, rinse and repeat.

The problem with most of the SEOs is that they are trying to do things the way they used to before Panda; they try a strategy for a week, check the results and see if it?s "working." But since they?re not testing in accordance to Google?s timeline, ultimately they?re going to end up with inaccurate data.

Inaccurate data = huge loss of time = huge loss of business

So your step is to make sure you?re drawing the right conclusions by evaluating the effectiveness of your SEO according to Google?s timeline, not yours. Make sure not to jump on to conclusions just because you "see" something. Until and unless you can "absorb" it, and verify it's accuracy by checking against already available data, you should be moving on to something else.

Lol. No. It used to be about 2 years ago.

Now, I've started completely manual submissions on high pagerank sites without worrying about factors like nofollow/do.follow, OBL etc. But that all will be coming in a later post.

Ok, I can't get my head around Panda, still watching, 1 site I have is only a data feed, went from 100 upd to 400-600 then a few months later down to 30 or so.

I have quite a few MNS some went up some went down, all built the same, same type of link building same hosts.

I have one site for a 4400 exact that has no links at all at sits at number 5, been there for months, no real content either and makes descent money for its position.
The Panda is a complex creature.

Do you have any case studies/data to support your conclusions.

Does anyone have 100% true and legit case studies/data to support their theories why their sites went page 1?

OP's theory sounds believable to me.

OP's text is pretty much the same as in the Panda Report by Koen Berkenbosch from LinkAloha. You get the PDF when you sign up for their waiting list.

To be fair, Koen doesn't state why he believes the Panda cycle is 30 days either.

for me panda is like hit and run. it hit a site (drop 5-100+ pages) leave it till it completes the cycle.
in this time you can build link and climb up the serp again but its slower

I can't believe someone is still talking about that "panda". So ridiculous. The panda update is supposed to be an on-page evaluation change, which is funny because I still rank all my sites on the 1st page with almost no content. Once the site gets on page 1 I add content. The only thing the panda update did is drop ezine rankings. Period. And yes - backlinking usually takes a random amount of time to have an effect on SERPS, which is what G00gle did a long time ago to prevent anyone from figuring out which BL strategy works best. That said, if you know what you are doing you can influence the rankings of a website in hours (there was a recent thread about that, has about a billion pages). Another thing regarding the """panda update""" - I've figured out how to avoid fiverr gigs from people who have absolutely no clue about SEO - if a gig has the phrase 'beat panda' in the description, never use it. About 40% of all backlinking gigs have that, no joke.

30 day cycle really? Last week my rankings moved from #8 to #5, yesterday I went back to #7. That's 2 movements in less then 7 days and that's what your whole post is based on. I say total nonsense and alexa_s is spot on here.

I think that's not for a discussion, I have ranked websites in the top 5 in a few days and you can do it in a few hours(for stupid KWs), but yes - patience is a big thing and I actually hate people who start complaining that their sites doesn't rank yet. For my 'serious' websites, I setup the site, get it indexed and wait about a month before any linkbuilding. No rush. A lot safer and natural.

Also, keep in mind that Google will not be able to implement any genius algorithm anytime soon, not because they can't code it, but because currently, there is no processing power to handle all the new billions of websites that pop up every second :) Maybe in a few years, when we start having computers that contain live brain cells :) All of that is because time is a factor - otherwise what will all the stupid justin bieber fans do when he gets a new haircut and they can't find it on google? Google has to be able to rank sites in a matter of hours and for some terms - a matter of minutes. Currently, I'm willing to bet that the actual algorithm google uses is stupidly simple and all the engineers can't stop laughing about people on forums talking about how complex and genius it is.

I think you just contradicted your own words. You say it's on-page change, and still you rank no-content site. Well, I have a demo site ready and up with copied content (encoded) that is actually ranking above original sources without any backlinking what so ever. PM me for the URL.

And I'm a little baffled here. By "ranking" the site, you mean indexing, right? Because as far as I know, ranking a one page site with no content is pretty damn tough, unless the keyword targeted has extremely less competition. Moreover, I don't think you can rank (index) such sites (for medium-hard KWs) without any backlinking at all.

I never said that with the Panda update, Google Dance was scrapped. I think I couldn't make it clearer. What I meant that analysis of Google's crawlings of your site, backlinks to/from your site plus hundreds of other signals' evaluation happens (allegedly) every 30 days or so. Many people have been saying that it usually is about 2-3 weeks, but I know have seen that it is a bit more than that.

And of course, the proof: http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/black-hat-seo/389623-case-study-deady-search-engine-optimizations-operation-chaos-hard-keywords.html

This is the case study thread that I opened last month. If you notice the dates of the updates, you'll find that most of the time, site's been dancing A LOT. Only recently did the rankings stabilize .

    Nice one!
    This raises the following question/solution:

Lets say all my pages print the current date&time, these will get cached in google when it crowls my site and then in google I view the "cached" version, if everything is really cached that would show me the time google visited right?

The site in question is about 3 years old with 5,964 backlinks (Majestic).
