What is this trend of sellers stating a price, advertising the price and then suddenly adding on paypal fees at the last minute?

Don't get me wrong, if a service is good and I like the seller then sometimes I will offer to send personal...................Rarely these days!

But why cant people do business like business should be done these days?

If I have a sales thread then I work out the cost of the thread, paypal fees and the time it takes me and then mark up the price................am I just to old skool these days?

I just think its kinda of rude and amatuer does anyone agree?

HI... As a service provider, I would want to make money 'net of all transaction charges'. However, to raise up the price subsequently is purely unethical and dumb too. Hence, if my service is worth $100 and I am gonna lose $10 on charges, I should quote 110, rather than quoting 100 and then raising it up to 110; Dumb and stupid.

They want to advertise the lowest possible price and that's the result.
I agree it's not professional and old school is a good school.

I disagree. If a buyer is wanting to purchase something from a seller, he/she should have to pay the appropriate fees, if applicable. Its no different than sales tax.

The difference being when you quote a price initially and then increase the price. This is an unethical practice, as the buyer is assuming you are cheaper to another competitor, while he might not be. Any seller/service provider MUST add his transaction charges, expenses etc before arriving at a price. But, changing the price later is what the thread is actually about.

If the Op is referring to services offered on BHW then I think it is cause for attention.
Perhaps this should be bought to the attention of the admin who approved the thread
as they could of been mislead in the original representation.

Whack'm with the banhammer! lying to admin is a big No No!

This does happen on Bhw but it also happens with every Forum, or anything virtual!
Its nOt down to forums to monitor, it's down to shit sellers not being able to maintain basic mathematic skills or at least minimum customer service management! I just think If you state a price then stick to the price and don't be sly

I don't know, why do people feel comfortable paying a sales tax? Isn't it weird that we pay a little bit extra money for something... just to buy it?

Yes sales tax is a given if your dealing with a real company and your in the same state as they are.

Listing one price and then asking to pay another is like bait and switch.

Most people in the service section are not running a real business IMO they are doing this on the side and not reporting the income

It seems obvious that you don't have much experience running a business. This is just the cost of doing business like paying credit card transaction fees so your customers can pay by credit card. You should be building this into the price of your service/product.

The reason people are complaining is because it's a hidden fee. When you purposely hide a fee it makes you look shady like a used car salesman.

I will give newbies the benefit of the doubt but whenever I see this I think twice about doing business with them again. I definitely scrutinize the work of these people much more.

Transaction fees are a part of doing business. Either build them into your price, or take a hit. Simple.

Agreed, and the truth is you will probably make more money this way in the long run, as you won't lose repeat business from people who are pissed that you added the fees. Someone tacking on added fees at the end of a transaction would make me not want to buy from them again.

Couldnt agree more, I have noticed this trend of get rich quick and don't worry about the future...............Long term loyalty from lcients can help out in some very rough times when everyday people are not to willing to pay out
