Tiered backlinks or direct links

Hey I planned to create a small link pyramid with some articles/web2.0 . i planned to link 4 articles/web2.0 firstly to main site and second tier link to 2 articles/web 2.0 those link one link to main site and other link to one web2.0 , this will link two links to main site.
the last web2.0 will be high PR and the others 1-3.

Should i do it like this (tiered), or should i forget about the linkwheel and link all articles/web 2.0 directly to the main site ?

Yes, build a link pyramid. Start with quality links to your main, and build more links to those. These are still working very well.
